I bought a 1J1 at a thrift store, along with it were the 10mm and 18.5mm lenses, a charger and 3 batteries for $80 Canadian. I knew nothing of the system. But since playing around with it for about a year, in my opinion it can take beautiful images with those two lenses. I've also adapted some old film era manual Pentax lenses with interesting and often pleasing results. Although it does have some frustrating quirks, I find myself using it a lot more than I thought I would.

Oh wow, I love the idea of adapting the old film lenses! Yeah I enjoyed shooting with it but I missed not having a view finder! Might have to try out the V line up! Thanks for watching 🙂

Late last year I picked up a N1J4 + 10-30mm lens for $50US. Love the size and getting to know the features. I acquired an 18.5mm f1.8 this week and am really excited with it!!!

I've had this camera for years, almost since it came out. The exposure meter is very slow, taking over 5 seconds to adjust from dark to bright scenes in non-manual modes. This delay often leads to overexposed or underexposed shots when I need to take photos quickly. It's not great for photography but decent for video. I bought a Fuji X70, which is much better for taking photos.
@stephenfphotography6 ай бұрын
Yeah I didn't love it, I actually sold it shortly after making the video as I found that I didn't use it much! Nice choice with the x70!

I love mine. I got a V1 for $10 at goodwill, came with 2 lenses. The viewfinder sensor was dirty, making the screen inoperable. After cleaning it the camera worked perfectly. I have a couple videos on my channel shooting with it. Thanks for your overview of the camera!

That's a bargain! I'm so tempted to try the V1 as prefer cameras with a viewfinder!
@SaucyFlopper935 ай бұрын
@stephenfphotography mine is still finicky at times. I do a lot of hiking with it so it gets dirtied up real quick. For the prices they go for though they are good budget cameras.

Try to get the 10mm 2.8 or the 18mm if you can find one cheap, those are really nice for that camera

The 18.5mm f1.8 is awesome. That’s the one lens that made me keep the Nikon1 system along side my Fujifilm gear. Small. Sharp. Light. Simple. Fixed. 50mm equivalent. ツ

I bought one complete with box mint condition for 100bucks. Still prefer a Nx mini for similar price but the lack of lenses or adapters makes me use the J1 once in a while

Good camera to figure out settings and how to shoot manually as a beginner
@stephenfphotography11 ай бұрын
Yes definitely! It would be great if you were moving from a compact camera and wanted to learn more!
@HogbergPhotography4 ай бұрын
A very nice camera, the problems is the jpegs which are HORRIBLE, you need to shoot raw with, but then you get VERY nice images in daylight. For me one of the issues is the extremely low megapixel count.. With a bit of cropping youre quickly down to 5-6 megapixel which is not that fun if you are going to print A4 size and upwards. I would rather recommend the J3 or the J4 instead, which have 14mp and 18mp sensors. Same issue with the jpegs on those sadly, so its raw only on those as well.
@stephenfphotography4 ай бұрын
I always shoot Raw so didn't test the JPEGs but good to know ha! If I was going to get a camera from the 1 series, I think I'd the V1 or V2 for the viewfinder 😊

Nikon 1 is plagued by electrical issues. Combined with bad performance at almost every aspect, you'll be better off getting a Sony RX 100 V or newer, or the first generation ZV-1
@stephenfphotography2 ай бұрын
Yeah I picked up a Sony RX100 earlier this to take with me as an EDC camera but was fun to shoot with the Nikon 1 for the short time I had it 👌🏼 Thanks for watching!

@@stephenfphotography my Nikon 1 adventure cost me a few hundred bucks (partly due to a dishonest seller), I did learn it's not a good ecosystem to buy into so I cut my losses. KZbin camera videos tend to be overly positive 😀 so I want to add some real life experience. The RX100 series have their quirks but for it's closer to a daily usable camera. The AF on my ZV-1 is probably the fastest AF of any of my cameras 😀 (I don't own any top of the line stuff)

Those two “options” cost 4-5 times the price of a Nikon 1, my dude
@mipmipmipmipmip-v5x2 ай бұрын
@DBCohen I found 200 euro for a Nikon you can throw in the parts bin a bit more expensive than my zv-1 which works and can be resold
