the USBA - USBC cable is limiting the charge from the later battery packs. you need to use a cable that supports PD power delivery to get the fast charge from a battery bank (usually USBC - USBC). hope this helps

I ditched my steam deck charger for the Anker GAN Prime 733. It does 65W when plugged in and doubles as a 10,000 mAh battery pack unplugged but drops down to about 20W charging on battery alone which would extend mobile play time. Also has a low wattage trickle charge mode for small devices like earphones, watches, etc. I'd say it's the best charger for the Steam Deck and w/e else out there. I haven't tested if the switch will work with it as a docking power supply yet.

You need a powerbank with the correct wattage. I have one with 100 watts out that I use for a laptop. That's way more than enough.

...5v 1A can charge a steam deck battery. If you go over 5w of usage when using the deck of course you won't charge but you'll slow the discharge a bit.

All the chargers work, it’s just that your power banks and phone charger only output 10W (5V at 2A) so the Steam deck won’t charge much or at all when it’s switched on. The low power chargers would be fine for charging the deck up overnight whilst it is switched off.

I had no choice to use my Switch charger. When I got my Deck it didn't come with a cable to connect it to the 45W plug the retailer supplied. So im stuck with the Switch charger.

Fast charging harms your battery so slower charging is better if you want your battery to last a long time. Also if you unplug while charging first unplug your charger from the wall then the cable to the console (If you unplug the usb-c cable first it will wear out the connector faster because the charging current will make the connector spark)

It’s been proven time and time again that fast charging does not inherently damage battery, the main cause for damage is heat, fast charging can cause heat build up fast but it can also not. You can use slow charging as much you want but if it gets hot regardless that can cause damagw.

For me doesnt justify to buy an +45 watt powerbank just to charge the console while were playing . Many games wont push steam deck to its full power and honnestly for me makes more sense to charge the console while its off. It will charge always faster and theres no waste of extra battery life from the console or powerbank while its charging since were not using it for anything else.

they designed it to do pass by charging while playing so it takes it directly from the power source and doesnt' touch the battery when its around 90%

for handheld mode you're right. But most people are going to dock it, and the dock/hub needs lots of power to charge usb peripherals, external SSD, and all other devices

why not? what about long road trips? for example im going to cedar point its a 2hr drive so what happens if i want to play Spiderman or GOW etc? it would last me all the way to get there but i wont have any juice to get back home ( we dont spend the night ). its not like i can charge it at cedar point lol.

@@blakewhitlow charge steamdeck fully before leaving, then use power bank to bypass steamdeck battery and empty the powerbank charge while going on trip. Then while returning use the actual SD battery and you have your both travel covered.

Samsung is notorious for not working with other products. So if your using the Samsung cable it could be the culprit. Also It could just be the cable, some cables are rated for fast charging and I believe a 3rd party or the cable that came with the 20000 power bank would prob have been recognized and work better.
