Can you Clean a Keyboard in the Dishwasher?

Can a dishwasher clean your entire mechanical keyboard? Some of you might of asked themselves this. Well, so did I. So I tested it out! But don't do this yourself, as cleaning your keyboard in the dishwasher VOIDS the WARRANTY and could easily break your keyboard.

You can even put a whole mainboard in the dishwasher, but please without cleaning product. It is better to disassemble the keyboard, remove the foam and put in the parts just like that, so that the dirt can be washed away and doesn't gather inside the parts. And it might be better not to put in the switches, unless you want to lube them again, since dirt can get trapped inside the switch. If you want to wash the keycaps, I'd recommend a washingbag and put them (only the keycaps) into the washingmachiene at a low 40°C temp and low speed. Edit: If you want to remove the complete moisture from electronicparts, bath them in isopropyl alcohol. The alcohol draws in the water and it evaporates completely when it dries.

Cleaning your motherboard in the Dishwasher is actually a really good/the only solution if you have overclocked with LN2 or such. Cos you often slab on a ton of vaseline, to protect against condensation. Its pretty much impossible to get it all clean any other way then with the dishwasher. As long as you dont use any dishwasher powder/tablets its fine.

I recently spilled some coffee with sugar in my Wooting2HE. Unplugged it, disassembled it, cleaned it with Isopropanol, let it dry for a few hours and reassembled it. Worked like new IMPORTANT: After you removed the switches or the top plate with the switches , you have to reinitialize the keyboard tro default, because the hallsensors need to be recalibrated. That drove me nuts when i had it all back together and the switches were "25%" pressed all the time and I couldn't figure out was the mistake was :)

My way: - Take a beer or two and get the caps off - Caps go into warm bowl with dish-soap for cleaning - Rest of the kb gets isopropyl-alcohol spray and a good wipe-down Before re-assembly, re-lube the switches and stabs as needed, but that's pretty much it. A few hours of beer-time with the tech... oh yeah, almost forgot... put on some good music, otherwise whatever you do becomes a sad chore... something like "Rip and Tear" sounds good.

I can only think of keys that would come off the keyboard and get stuck in the drain pipe behind your dishwasher, but you're good! No key is missing 😅

if you do this you should give it a isopropyl alcohol bath after or just do that instead no water also if you do dont do it with switches caps stabs and foam rest is probably fine

for best results you should wash at least once a month. I usually put mine in the dryer afterwards

You have to remove the keycaps first and but them in a seperate bag or something. i did that like 4 years ago to one of my old ones and it worked totally fine

if I remember correctly. Linus from LTT did this but with multiple keyboards and in an update after about like a year or so, he said that every keyboard put through this same treatment died. so even more of a reason to NOT do something like this.

Next time take it apart and put the keycaps/switches in a cage. Then wipe the PCB down with alcohol to help it dry and rinse the keycaps/switches in an alcohol solution, then dry them.

I've cleaned my 2016 Razer Black Widow keyboard in dish washer every 6 months for 8 years. Still working great lmao. I've just been told to avoid using soap. Edit: Also, kills lube.

dont recommend using the dishwasher tablet or any sort of cleaner as it could corrode the pcb been using dishwasher for years for my keyboard, water only works perfectly also TAKE THE KEYCAPS OFF and lube your switches unless you dont care like i dont, never lubed never will :P
