This is the proof of a true master. Currently there are plenty of KZbin videos of so called expert woodturners who couldn't even come close to what you produced by eye. Sadly they're interested in telling viewers to purchase a certain chisel or lathe which would make them into woodturners; not! Your humble presentation coupled with your flawless skill are truly inspirational for the serious student. THANK YOU for taking the time to make these videos. I love them! 😎

Amazing, wonderful skill. My first lessons (years ago) were with Mick Hanbury, who encouraged us beginners to just spend 10 minutes ‘getting your eye in’ with a few beads and coves at the beginning of each workshop visit. Great advice - and this “simple” test can be added to that list of ‘getting your eye in’ with the skew. Thanks.

What? Everybody is so in awe of your skill. Well, I am too! Amazing eye. When I saw the challenge I never Imagined you would turn both at the same time, from the same piece of wood and achieve such an amazing result. I had commented before on your skew chisel demonstration. I was amazed how you make that tool look like it's an extension of your hands. Thanks to you, I am so much more confident with the skew. I have a long way to go as I'm still struggling to do an even, 'sweeping' cut with the tool, but I'll definitely be practicing this! Thanks again, your videos are great!!!

We used similar exercises teaching engineering apprentices. (In metal and using drawings). If the male fitted the female, before they jumped up and down in excitement, the two parts also had to fit those of another apprentice!

​@@woodturner21 not really! If you turn a hundred components, similar to you turning spindles say, they all have to fit from no 1 to 100. The exercise of pairing them with those produced by a different apprentice was to assess of they could meet the tolerance on the drawing. Thereby allowing different staff to turn the same component increasing production. (These were engineering lathes, which in comparison were more precise and easier to control in minute degrees than by eye on a wood lathe.)

I’ve been full time Professional for 44 years. I don’t remember when I could do this degree of accuracy by eye but it was around 8-10 years before I could do it this well consistently
