In Breath of the Wild there is a Rito in Gerudo Town. She stands in front of the meat stall wishing they had poultry. It makes sense since most of the Rito resemble birds of prey.

I never understood why cats eating mice, i.e. mammal on mammal, is fine; but hawks eating chickens, i.e. bird on bird, was seen as cannibalism. Or in at least two cases, one of which was freaking Donatello, who is supposedly the smart one; considering turtles eating frogs, i.e. reptile on amphibian, as cannibalism. I mean, they _are_ both Chordates... but so are tigers and sharks; I'm starting to think that the writing on the third movie was not very good?
@shark_girl Жыл бұрын
@@BonaparteBardithion I think most races in Hyrule are probably omnivorous. With the exception of Gorons ofc, since they quite literally eat rocks. But I think the Rito being carnivores would make much since, seeing as therehave been many side quests involving a Rito cooking a meal with a lot of other things, and they also sell zero meat in their general store in both games.
@BonaparteBardithion Жыл бұрын
@@shark_girl I agree they're omnivores, but their lifestyle and anatomy do indicate a higher amount of meat in their diets. Multiple recipe related Rito quests call for fish, for example, and NPCs talk about hunting or eating poultry. It's possible that they don't sell meat because it's just harder to have it consistently in stock when they don't keep livestock. They hunt what they need for their own households. If anywhere, I would assume Hateno would sell meat since they have the largest number of livestock, but I don't believe they do in either game either. Aside from seafood, most of Hyrule seems to practice subsistence hunting.

The "Face" of a korok is probably just a mask they use to resemble a face (like the korok mask armor piece) , since they don´t have a mouth or eyes, something obvious if you look a hestu, they always have their nose piercing the leaf to hold the mask, and in some cases, the nose is way above the "eyes" of the mask, specifically the Korok face that resembles more the frond. So, in conclusion, The face of koroks is probably just a Korosk front with a face painted, and eating them doesn't hurt the korok in any way other than maybe emotionally.

Considering that (correct me if I’m wrong) Hestu I believe mentions that Koroks are “children of the forest” and that you can get Korok fronds from cutting down trees it may be that they are quite literally children of the forest and come from trees and perhaps grow around the fronds themselves, though this may be me miss remembering some dialogue

The first thing that came to mind for me about the fronds looking like they're hiding something is that it might be a very sneaky joke about fig leaves in art, covering an otherwise nude person's most sensitive bits. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the intent behind the English flavor text - there were a few things that could plausibly be interpreted as 'jokes for adults that fly over younger players' heads' in BotW, and TotK probably has some of this too.

This is the most entertaining thing I've seen all day. Btw, reminds of me of the "Gorons eating rocks" thing. In Ocarina of Time, the Gorons are found to be starving because the rocks they love to eat come from Dodongo's Cavern, which is blocked off by a huge boulder. One may ask why they don't just eat the boulder? I think it's because the boulder... tastes like Koroks. In a manner of speaking. Lemme 'splain. As we have many different plants with varying levels of taste and edibility, I'm sure Gorons have varying levels of edible rocks. For example, we know from BotW and TotK they don't like the taste of gemstones, which is why they make a business of selling them. Some rocks just taste better than others. Let's say they have some rocks that are as edible to us as, say, lettuce. Who doesn't love lettuce? (Yes, you do.) Gorons would love those kinds of rocks. But say there were other rocks that were as edible to them as an... aspen leaf would be to us. Is it technically edible? Well, like the aforementioned Korok face, an aspen leaf is TECHNICALLY edible by a strict scientific definition, but that doesn't mean any of us like to eat them or would choose to. So if you've got an "aspen leaf-tasting" boulder blocking your way and you're a Goron with good taste who's used to "lettuce-tasting" rocks, you wouldn't be able to bring yourself to chow down on it. Whether it's a boulder, a gemstone, a frond, or a forest spirit's face... it's all a matter of what CAN be eaten, what SHOULD be eaten, and what one is WILLING to eat.

The phrasing is very well chosen in, "looks like it might be hiding something behind it"; meaning it hides the face, or more appropriately the "non-face", of a Korok. So the leaf isn't really part of their body, but a decoration from the Deku Tree that they wear. I think Koroks are basically little saplings of the Great Deku Tree, and I believe they can actually take root when old enough but not sure if that's ever explored in the games aside from the Deku sapling in Ocarina that resembles them.

Mushrooms and Fruits don't actually necessarily indicate that Koroks eat other plants. Fungi are not plants at all, but another kingdom seperate from animals and plants altogether, that do in fact account for a lot of the organic material consumed by trees in particular, and fruits botanically are never the entire plant they're attached to, but a part that is produced as part of the reproductive process, making them essentially equivalent to taking eggs from chickens - rather than being equivalent to eating the chicken itself. I don't know if the Koroks would be so receptive of the idea of eating a plant's roots or stem, the way Link does with greens such as stambulbs, hylian herbs, sundelions and so forth. They seem pretty down with rice, which is that sort of thing as well, so it's probably fine, but it is a distinction worth considering imo

Wood is edible. Cellulose powder (sawdust) is added to a lot of food to "enrich" it with fiber, and on grated cheese to prevent sticking (no pun intended). It's also likely the "faces" are either masks/clothing, or just a leaf that grows on them similar to trees implying they are detachable without hurting the korok (but would make photosynthesis hard).

Sheikah - The like-likes I encountered have swallowed a lot of Sheikah shields. They probably taste good. Gerudo - They seem like they're in good shape, high quality meat for sure. 1:35 i mean it's only fair. when a tree dies, mushrooms eat it. sometimes they don't wait for it to die, and on occasion they speed up its death. Might as well get revenge. I'm pretty sure humans can eat trees, though it sure isn't something you would want to eat.. you have to strip off the bark and then eat the cork, leaving bare wood behind. I know deer do it. I mean we all saw Bambi. Another key thing to remember is that korogs can become stalfos, and their stalfos form (stalkid) maintains its desire for something to cover its face and seem more spooky.. so that inner wood might not be the entire inner portion of the body, the way it is on a real tree. it might just be a thinner wood skeleton inside, surrounded by cork which contains the closest thing trees have to internal organs. yknow xylem and phloem..

The frond description is a joke about paintings where they cover nono spots with leaves.

Hey dude! These are pretty good! I recommend the Korok Burrito. It’s my own recipe. All you do is rip off the korok face then get some meat and some hot sauce and put into the korok face and roll it up!

The visibility section raises a question: what do normal people see rather than a korok? Do they just see nothing, or do they just see the leaf face?

Fun fact, on the great plateau in breath of the wild where you get the first Rusty broadsword and there's a korok dive thing? Well interests of the Kingdom there's a korok underneath a rock where the sword used to be, and now there's a sword underneath where the korok used to be x3

One thing I noticed about Hestu is that he has leaves on his branches which means he engages in photosynthesis. He also shits gold, and in the Zelda universe, gold is often referenced to be the color of light. Hestu and the Koroks are mobile as well, and photosynthesis would not produce enough energy to support that so it would make sense that they also consume matter and produce waste from that. Then of course, you have Korok seeds. I think they are only seeds in the localization, but that does bring up the question of their reproduction and if it's more intimate than regular plant reproduction. Do Koroks have boyfriends/girlfriends?

i have always just assumed that they use inanimate korok fronds as masks and that's what pepp was talking about, but the rest of this analysis is so funny lol

If you finish the newspaper quests you can access the Lucky Clover Gazette's back room. In there there is an edition of the newspaper that says that koroks can be seen by those with pure hearts
