Indeed this reaction came perfectly on time for the official announcement of the Lordfest 2024 co-headliner, which will be the German band OOMPH! - especially known for some of their huge chart hits like "Augen auf" and "Gott ist ein Popstar" in the early 2000's. I guess I should mention this breaking news in this comment section too!💥

Hi Elendil, do you know if the guys have any plans for releasing an instrumental version of Judas? After the recent instrumentals, Thornstar and blood and glitter, it would be fantastic. I am thinking that after two years or so since release that this is not going to happen?

The cross can also be a "J" for "Judas" - but it's absolutely brilliant how you found various ways of interpretation for the symbolism, and it totally shows how much love and dedication you put into your reactions and into LOTL!🖤⸸🌙 Now that we did the interview I can feel your fascination for LOTL even more, and I love to be on this journey through their entire discography with you! I hope you're ready for some more wild experiences in the next months and years!😍🔥 Xelanah - or her character - switching between black and white is of course symbolizing her being driven by the "good" and the "evil", and she is sacrificing herself in the end as the good inside of her knows that her dark side would kill Chris' character if she doesn't protect him by putting an end to herself. Hence her bright side is acting in the most selfless way a human being can imagine, showing love that transcends the universe. If you take away your own life in order to save the one you love or care about, can a human radiate a brighter light than this? Of course you can associate the story of the videos "Priest" and "For They Know Not What They Do" with the relationship between Judas and Jesus because the black and white that is being portrayed here is perfectly emphasizing the saviour/traitor-duality. However, if we assume that she took away her life to protect him, then Judas would be the saviour in the end! In the apocryphal Gospel of Judas, Jesus is urging his best friend Judas to betray him because this was the only way for Jesus to be able to leave his body in order to return to the (Gnostic) realm of light, not the "paradise" modern Christianity is propagating. It's needless to say that Judas' betrayal also had the most self-destructive price he could possibly pay as a consequence, as the entire world hated him subsequently because they didn't know the true reason and origin of the alleged betrayal. Here's the direct connection between the video/song and the Gnostic apocryphon! I also find it highly interesting to look at "For They Know Not What They Do" as a prequel of "Priest". What if he brought her into the cave AFTER she stabbed herself? Absolutely insane how many ways of interpretation those cinematic masterpieces offer, and how one can pause the videos a thousand times to find new elements and details over and over again! But if I am being honest, the whole album "Judas" is giving me this vibe of adventurous exploration, unlimited depth and a plethora of details. No wonder that this is one of the favourite albums of all Losties!🙏 "For They Know Not What They Do" - from a musical point of view easily among my favourite LOTL songs, even more than the already gigantic "Priest". Not only because it's seductively dark and the catchy chorus is casting a spell over the listener from the outset, but most of all because of the stunning diversity the calming verses in between the choruses on the one hand and the obliterating growls on the other hand provide. My conclusion is very simple: Anyone who doesn't fall in love with this sombre jewel has no clue at all.🖤✨️

If you ask Chris, it's the "J" for Judas. He came up with the symbol whilst on Holiday staring out into the sea.

The whole Judas double album is a journey through the darkest dephts and brightest highs...I love this record sooooo much. I remember on the Ensemble concert of LOTL in 2022 down here in Hamburg...they played Judas...acustic...with strings, classic percussion and all. This was one hell of an experience and I can´t thank the band enough for this moments.

This LOTL journey is going to be fascinating. I have got to know of them only recently because of your reaction to them and have gotten a bit deeper into their music already. My latest discovery is a concert of them with orchestra which can be found on KZbin that took place in Leipzig way back in 2013 - just incredible.

@@joachimschwabe3301 great, it must have been an amazing evening. My gothic time was in the 90ies and early 2000 with Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Girls under Glass and others. So Lord of the Lost was a bit late for me, but still like this kind of music. Metal I always liked, grew up with the old bands like Deep Purple, Dio, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Helloween or Black Sabbath. Then I got to know Nightwish with Tarja and this brought Metal to a new level. Today's Metalheads simply don't get it what an impact they had on the metal scene at this time. But great, would love to see LOTL in my old days one day. Maybe on their tour this year? 😉

@@thomashoffmann3656 Nice to hear! Pity that you missed the recent performance at Gothic meets Klassik (November 2023), there are also already some recordings at YT. It seems that there will be some regular LOTL shows in 2024, but they also play at at the Mera Luna Festival in Hildesheim again. But this will be only 60 minutes. Still, maybe an opportunity to see some more bands? This year also with ASP, VNV, Deine Lakaien, London after midnight, Zeraphine and others. Sisters were headlining 2022 and Girls under Glass played last year at the club stage. Mera Luna 2016 (acoustic) and 2018 are also still my favorite appearances from LOTL besides Gothic meets Klassik, also available on YT.

I like to interpret this as a prequel. In "For They Know Not What They Do" the woman is out to destroy this man and sends her demons to assist with the hunt. She comes across him first on the hill but can't bring herself to kill him because she sees something that is good and perhaps significant about him. However, the darkness within still compels her to kill him so she has the vision of going through with it. She follows him to the lake and again has that vision that she needs to kill him. Finally, in the forest, she approaches and strikes at him. However, she overcomes the evil and sacrifices herself instead. Her demons realizes there is a disturbance. Then I think this is where "Priest" picks up. The demons having felt that something has happened to their master and make haste going after the man, who escapes them and hides in the cave. The man goes back out to the forest to recover the woman, brings her back to the cave and revives her. She is grateful, but her demons find the them in the cave and intend to complete their mission. However, she dispatches the demons, then marks the man with the white Judas Cross, making him either something like her, maybe immortal of sorts, or perhaps part of her clan.

Another brilliant example of the depth and diversity of Lord Of The Lost's art. The hymnal ambience and lyrics, and the contrasts within this song alone are enough to leave you awestruck and when combined with the imagery, and emotion conveyed by the characters in the video, you become completely immersed in this multifaceted story, which can be interpreted in many ways. The attention to detail and theology behind this work is extraordinary! Thank you for another very interesting reaction to another very wonderful LOTL song. 🖤

For me, this song and "Priest" go together with a third one: "Viva Vendetta" where Xelanah collects the souls/her dark apostles first who are the hunters in "Priest" and the sect (as Elanna calls them) in "For They Know Not What They Do". At least I interpret it somehow as another prequel for both of the songs you've now reacted to. Get ready for a good Western, in case if you choose to do that one... 😉 I'll never get tired of the Judas songs and videos! I'm ready for this... LOTL love easter eggs, references and innuendos just as the Bohemian Rhapsody/Queen one. In "Priest" Chris sings "Jesus, He knows me and He knows I'm right" which is an intentional reference to Genesis' song. I love your interpretation of the "J" symbol as a sword and of the song/video as a whole. Thank you! Much love as always! Stay lost!

Don't know about Lord of the lost, for me it's Lost for words. What a song. To tell this story in this manner, the music, the lyrics, just mindblowing. They are not just a bunch of musicians playing a song, they are a unit, all beiieving in what they are doing. I don't think LOTL will ever top this Judas album. I think the lady in the video is Klass's girlfriend?

There is no special talent in this group. They are just trying to sound strange, just like Nightwish, a bunch of old musicians, Flor can sing, but not anything unique or special. Evanescence sounded way better than them. And I don't care for the upside down cross on the foreheads of these people either. Not good.
