Rich tries an experiment on the tiny swarm he just caught. Can you feed bees in the bucket trap? Stay tuned to find out.

great b/c I just caught a swarm about 10 days ago in Ft. Lauderdale. This was great knowledge for me as a beginner beekeeper.

How long do you plan on leaving them in the bucket ?

At least until I see pollen coming in, ideally until I see capped brood which means that the queen has mated and started laying.

Does it matter in which direction the entrance faces?

There is a preference for east, then south. But in all honesty no it doesn’t matter. They’re looking for someplace to call home and they will accept any direction the entrance faces. And in the case of these bucket traps, I bring them down to look at them and then pull them back up and as often as not the entrance faces in some other direction, they adapt.
