Any pickup will clunk when tapped with a piece of metal. The true test for a microphonic pickup is to run it through an amplifier and put the pickup in front of the speaker with a fair bit of gain. If it squeals like a microphone, that is a microphonic pickup. Tapping with metal tells you nothing. You may be confusing a floating ground with microphonics. A floating ground will pop and buzz when metal parts are touched with your fingers.

Microphonic problem only solved whit potted wax, because the 2 pickups needed, but if you played Jazz, blues or rock classic there are no problem. Great video!

I didn’t finish the video so I’ll check back when done. The pickup does it in the guitar but not in the guitar. I believe the bridge plate is helping with that resonance allowing you to hear the sound. Or the back plate of the pickup is picking up the oscillation and it’s going into a feedback loop. I’ll post back once I see your findings.

A very nice video! You put a lot of effort into all this, thank you very much. And the music you play I like very much. I have the same issue on my telly and also there is heavy feedback if I turn the volume on max output. I will have to find out about this. I think this is all mechanical issues caused by the kind of construction of the pick up holding mechanisms, I will try with some double sided gaffa tape between base plate and pickup and rubber tubes put over the three little springs. As you already found out, everything needs to be damed.

Nice guitar playing. Did you manage to fully cure it in the end? I've heard that a loose coil winding can cause microphonics.

Thank you, I ended up replacing the pickup, but think that the things I did to reduce it was very helpful. Cheers!

But Velveeta is made to melt! 😜
@williardbillmore57132 ай бұрын
@@BrianGay57 I have found that if you want that true warm vintage tone you need to melt Hershey's chocolate into the coils. Don't think for a second that you can get the same sound with Brach's or Whitman's chocolate... It has to be Hershey's.

Yeah, this is a solution for low level jazz blues. You MUST wax pot a tele for rock blues stage levels.

Put pieces of sponge inside the whole cavity. It will work 100%

control cavity? as in where the potentiometers are? or the pickup cavity?
