I use a buffing and polishing attachment kit from Ryobi with a battery powered drill. It has three varying strength pads, and I use them with car polishing compound. It does a really good job and can get rid of some pretty deep scratches once you get the hang of it. Just be patient and watch the heat build up. Angle grinder is way too much speed and commotion.

That sounds like a WAY smarter idea - I’m thinking Dremel (as mentioned by others) might be comparable to the angle grinder as far as variable speeds are concerned. Car polishing compound also seems like a solid call! Thanks for the tips ☺️

I like your spirit bud, but like others have said: wear eye protection! And you can definitely use an automotive buffer for something like this but maybe a pair of "helping hands" would..help!

You're lucky you didn't get a shard embedded into you! Perhaps wear some catcher's gear? Oh, some strong eye protection might not be a terrible idea too! As for logistics... the key here will be applying pressure but not so much pressure that it turns your disc into a fired round of ammunition. It may make more sense to use something smaller? Maybe a dremel or some other smaller drill? Perhaps an angled drill? I wonder if double-sided sticky tape would be enough to keep the disc in place so as to keep your digits away from the spinning buffing wheel of dismemberment? What if you made a jig that the disc sat in while you buffed it? Just a few ideas!!

We used a buffer. It certainly wasn't perfect. A 2nd, 3rd and 4th the use of eye protection!!! Matt's Media does disc resurfacing BUT he often doesn't have the pads and cleaning solution. It's been a struggle for us too :(

If you're buying games in any volume then you should get a JFJ, 10 seconds in, I can already tell that you are going to give tips to people that will damage games that are no longer being printed. Most game stores with resurface games for $2-3 CAD. There are also mail-in services as well. Don't use grinders or those hand resurfacers. You are actually doing more damage.

Yeah - I’m not doing high volume enough for warrant a JFJ… and Im CERTAINLY not offering any advice here 😂 I basically destroyed two games and advised to only practice with cheap games ☺️

An angle grinder is a bit much. Maybe put buffing wheels on a variable speed Dremel so you aren't just full sending it by your fingers.

@@SaturdayMorningGamer past this, solutions go into the thousands. A used jfj will cost $100-200 with solutions and pads. Deep scratches will still need a more commercial machine. Several companies offer a send off service including jrpglife the KZbinrs
