You explaining how service dogs can help with hyper focus as I hyper focus on all these service dog videos, and my dog snuggling up to me and pulling me out it is the most ironic thing that has ever happened in my life 😂 and in classic ADHD fashion I’ve used way too many words to explain this, for that I am sorry! My daughter has dyslexia which caused academic anxiety, she worked with a specialist for 3 years and everything seemed better. Fast forward 10 years to March 2020 when all kids went to distance learning and she had to start the university process. This caused her academic anxiety to go through the roof, insomnia became overwhelming and what we thought was academic anxiety was actually ADHD that we never realized she had been dealing with. Now in university she has a psychiatric service dog, he is so helpful to her.

I also have exactly these difficulties even though I don't have ADHD. I have cPTSD. There is another problem I think you need to adress: well-being of the service dog. We now have regulations in Germany since half a year. They are very strict, in some ways too strict in my opinion, in others they really make sense. For example, we need not only a certificate from a doctor and from a psychological therapist, that a service dog would help the patient / future handler, but that the future handler also is capable of caring for the service dog. Children and handlers with intellectual issues need to provide someone who cares for the dog's needs. We also have to provide two temporary homes in case we have to go to a hospital for surgery etc. The person in charge of caring for the service dog must always have the well-being of the dog in mind. It must be acknowledged that our sensitive service dogs are living beings and that as team we care for another. So putting too much stress on a service dog is considered abuse. Some people with psychiatric issues are not capable of handling the service dog right, because they are already overwhelmed by their own special needs. I am glad that the regulations in Germany also point out that the well-being of the service dog must always be provided. A veterinary has to check on the service dog regularly to see if the service dog is okay with the job. Another thing that is important is the length of the job as a service dog. The regulations don't allow a service dog to work past his 10 years of age, unless a veterinary allows it for another year. This can be done twice, so with the fulfilled 12th year of age, the dog won't be able to work as service dog anymore and enters its deserved retirement. I would hope that the US also have regulations concerning the dog's wellbeing. If not, then I hope the handlers of service dogs care for the retirement of their service dogs even without such a regulation.

The past 6 months I have been babysitting a friend La dog became she is recovering from open heart surgery and complications. The dog is not a service dog but is extremely well trained and intelligent to the point that anywhere I go people ask if he is a service dog m. He is the most emotionally intelligent dog I have ever met despite having quite a few dogs throughout my life. Taking care of him for her was very spur of the moment as a last resort for her but has ended up dramatically changing my life for the better. She’s I am going to be heartbroken when he goes because he really takes care of me in so many ways. I am interested in training a dog for these purposes and getting certification now. He has made things go from so often extremely unbearable to very difficult, but something I can at least work with and make progress.

The ADA does not require certification of any type, there’s no certification through the ADA for the IDs, this is a common tactic amongst online retailers and is not legitimate. Have you ever looked at the ADA literature on service dogs?? Vests are also not required either, though some do use them to alert others not to make eye contact, or pet the dog while working. You actually shouldn’t even show your letter from your psychiatrist to anyone when asked as this makes it more difficult for others who have service dogs, because facilities are not allowed to ask for proof. Which is part of the problem because anyone can buy a vest and patches from Amazon just to take their dog places, so I do wish the laws would change but that’s neither here nor there.
@LisaGallegos
@LisaGallegos 10 ай бұрын
@@PoppyRussianDoll It's not required, but if you want to travel internationally, getting a cert through an ADI accredited organization is helpful. Also, I do recommend going through some sort of legitimate program (or working with a trainer) as it can be a lot of work and very stressful to do it on your own. There are a lot of scams online though! I still recommend getting a letter to protect yourself legally in the rare instance something arises, and to discuss whether a service dog really would help with your disability. Hope that helps

@LisaGallegos 10 ай бұрын
@@emmal885 Hi! Sorry - I should've clarified - you're not required by the ADA. I recommend having a letter regardless, for a service dog so you have a backup if needed ever. For example, let's say someone decided to sue you because of your service dog. Even if you had a really strong case proving you and your dog didn't do anything, if you don't have any medical letter already, it could be really hard from a legal standpoint to defend. This is also why I recommend having a training log to show (once again, just in case) that you really did do training. Also, a service dog isn't for everyone - even if you are considered disabled under the ADA, everyone's disability affects them differently. Talking to your medical professional is helpful to decide whether this is going to help you in the long run or cause you more stress. Finally, if you ever want to get a certification through an organization that is accredited under the ADI, most will require a letter. This is really only necessary for those who are traveling internationally with their service dog. Some people do decide to get a certification for their own confidence (even if they're not traveling internationally) and to have a community to lean on when problems arise; however, it's by no means necessary in the USA under the ADA as of today. I hope that clarifies a few things - I said it as a requirement because that's something I have to ask for (to protect myself legally as well) when helping teams get certified through the organization (atlas) I volunteer for. As you mentioned though, it's always a good idea with ANY youtube video on ANY subject to not just blindly follow and be sure to do your own research :)

Absolutely not true that the ADA requires a medical doctor's confirmation. Never required to get or self train a service dog. The only times it is required is for flying or some housing issues, or if you get into legal trouble and need to prove you have a qualifying disability. Look into it before getting discouraged, the ADA does not want to add unnecessary steps for the disabled.

For example, it took me like two hours to finish one test because I zoned out during the middle and started thinking of random things maybe like hello I’m like oh yeah, I have a SSI so it’s not a real dog because my last talk that I had it was a service dog passed away but he was actually I just trained him for my mom. I was 10. I start training him my pass to train service dogs and he passed away last year before he became a dog officially, and I miss him and my new dog he can if I put in some work, this is really hard for me now I struggle with zoning thinking of that and I know ESA don’t have the same public access rates and I get that and I don’t know if my school allows ES essays or essays but I have a stuffed animal for comfort for now and I don’t have anyone I don’t have a riddle to close Actually like trained but I do think I need it because I struggle with getting really bad ticks and I try to hide them but it’s not working and I struggle with being anxiety during tests and that’s really ADHD is causing zoning out so I’m doing a task and then I changed another task or when I’m zoning out I just took like one time. Oh my God yes one time I thought of during our ceremony I thought of what little fish she swimming in the ocean fish swimming in the ocean, fishy swimming ocean boom shark attack that was really funny but anyway, it’s just like I don’t know what I should do I don’t really feel comfortable talking to people and just a lot going on so

I would share KZbin/TikTok videos with them with people with bipolar/anxiety sharing how a SD has helped them. That being said, it's definitely not for everyone - you still have to take care of your SD, and have the funds to help support them with vet bills, food, etc. If they're worried it's going to create more work for them, ask them what you can do to show you're responsible- perhaps you volunteer and become a puppy raiser for a service dog organization for a few months to show you're dedicated or volunteer at a shelter. That way they know you're responsible and know what you're getting into before committing to a SD :)

My medication doesn’t seem to be helping as much as it used to either. Ive tried every single medication type they have, none worked, or barely worked. Not only that but, I also have many nightmares, and when I say many, I mean many, I have one almost every night. Also, I ALWAYS forget very important things, like feeding my cat or cleaning her litter box, doing my homework, brushing my teeth or hair and even eating. You need to speak to your psychiatrist or therapist about that. They’re the ones who have to write your letter stating you need one and know your situation best. My psychiatrist and therapist suggested tasks my dog would need to perform in order to be beneficial to me in assisting with my bipolar and OCD along with my letter. Which helped a lot when I was looking for a trainer for my poodle, that way I had an outline on exactly what we needed to train on.

For some people it can help to have a routine. Dogs will typically let you know when they’re hungry, and need to go out more. @@LisaGallegos I’ve been planning and setting up stuff. I had been writing down a list of things I would need to buy for the dog, figuring out what breed would help me best, if I should train them myself, with a trainer or buy the dog fully trained and I’ve also been figuring out a schedule. Wake up, if I hadn’t been awake all night, take the dog out for a walk to get ready for the day and let them use the bathroom, do basic morning routine stuff, head to school. Although, before bringing the dog to my school, preferably the day or week before, I would ask my teachers and other important school staff if I could bring them in. Once they approve, I’ll place a mat under my desk for the classes I don’t have end of row seats at so the dog could sit there, I’d also bring a small waterproof placemat under a collapsible bowl and a few water bottles to fill up the bowl. I will let the dog use the bathroom before and after lunch, I’ll feed them at lunch, and provide them with some toys so they don’t get bored, as well as an extra leash just in case mine breaks, some boots along with their poncho if it is raining or is wet, treats and treat bag, a cooling vest if it gets hot and obviously, their gear. I’ll do stuff at home with them too. I’ve sent a message to my doctor to get an appointment to see if I could get a note, they still haven’t responded yet, so that gives me a bit more time to get prepared. If you have any recommendations I would appreciate them!

@@spacey.fromcanada So by law, you can self-train your own service dog! You can do your own evaluation to ensure their dog is well-behaved. I have a sample public access test here: collabdogtraining.com/publicaccesstest-servicedogtraining That being said, some people WANT that support from a third unbiased party so they can feel confident their dog truly is well-behaved. You can look for service dog trainers in your area to do a test for you. I should also mention - while you CAN self-train, if something were to happen legally (in the rare case) it is def more helpful to show you did the work to have a third party evaluate you + your dog, and have some sort of training log (can be done in a google spreadsheet, or even checking off that PDF I linked to). Like I said, it's rare something would happen if you trained your dog; however, you never know so it's always good to have that documentation :) Hope that helps!

I am a disabled vet got a puppy 6 weeks old when can i start to train

Training should start immediately. My pup started at 9 weeks and learned all his basic commands and manners, socializing. It takes over a year but can take two for many dogs, so definitely start educating and researching if you plan to do it alone.

Hey. Do you prefer mydayis over vyvanse?

For me - yes! As I’m sure you’re aware, everyone is diff. I was on 50mg of vyvanse + 5 mg IR in the afternoon, and now doing great on 25 mg of mydayis. There were like 2-3 days of adjusting for me but it wasn’t terrible. I don’t feel a crash at all either!

The music makes it hard to understand you partly because I have trouble understanding speech but mostly because it is louder than you are the balance is off.
