I've been trying to get a job in AAA for 5 years. The furthest I've gotten is third interview after passing a design test. The only feedback I've ever received was that the first-place candidates had more AAA experience than me. I'm pretty sure I should stop applying and focus on building my own UE5 studio.

are u using blueprints? cuz nobody cares for blueprints, most game engines in AAA Companeis they use their own costume engine, u need to know C++,

I think it's harder to enter an already established studio that use Unreal Engine, than starting searching for people to help you coding a game you guys will agreed on! Developping a game on Unreal, being solo is rough but not impossible. If you have the assets and VFX (a lots of good stuff can be bought) all you need is programming it into your game. Of course optimisation is a huge part, it's why i think the best is to start with Polygon or lowpoly game. easy to modify 3D mesh, easy to manipulate Material and so on..

Great video, but there is one mistake: Rockstar does not use Unreal Engine. They let one of their subcontractor studio to used UE4 to Re-make some of their old games.

I didn't mean they use unreal engine for all their projects... but they do use it. I have a student who got hired in Rockstar Games.

If i remember correctly, RAGE engine is a combination of Unreal and some other engine.

hi, i've got a question for all of you travelers of the internet... i'm a 17 yo who loves video games and programming so i recently started learning how to create games, i started with unreal engine and i found it very easy because even tought i didn't know c++ i got around it by using visual scripting, i found this method very easy and learned at a fast pace creating a small zombie wawe game even tought it was not complete the base was done and i feel proud thinking about it... after that i decided to try unity because i found it very cool and wanted to start creating games with it, the problem is that even after learning c# i'm finding lots of issues while using unity and i usually waste a lot of time around random problems that my inexperience creates... my question is: i wanna become a pc game dev so should i stick with unity or go back to to UE and learn C++?

You don't have to choose one, you can learn both. However if you want to work for indie studios then stick with Unity, otherwise if you want to work for bigger (AAA) studios then Unreal might be the better option.

This didn't age well. No one is really hiring for unity, you're going to have a MUCH harder time trying to find a job in unity than unreal and anyone that's actually in the gaming industry and has had to go through it will tell you the same thing. And with unity announcing the $0.20 charge per install just a few days after the CEO sold 2000 shares, no serious company is going to use the product of the CEO that called his own consumers "fucking idiots". Just learn and use unreal or you're going to regret it down the line. Even if you're trying to do it solo and start your own studio, $0.20 per installation of your game is going to destroy your revenue and hurt smaller teams with already small profit margins even worse.
