I stop my irons at 6i (26*) or 5i (23*) if I'm hitting particularly well. Because of that, I have a 3-hybrid at 19* and a 4-wood or delofted 5-wood at 16*-ish (I don't play 3w anymore... too difficult). I use a 7-wood in the gap between the last iron and the hybrid. They go almost the same distance, but a 7-wood is very easy to hit and gets the ball way up in the air much easier and gets even mishits up off the ground and down the fairway a good distance. The other option is a hybrid iron, but I've never hit those well enough to put in the bag and play on the course. Like the first commentor suggested, try a 7-wood. The hype is real. :)

Definitely leaning towards the 7 wood here - loving the sound of something that is easier to get up in the air. Thinking about it more carefully, I think my hybrid is actually 19* and not 21* as stated in the video, which would explain the fairly close distances with the 3 wood. I'll need to do some research to get a better idea of what's out there in terms of woods. Thanks very much for your opinion and hope you'll tune into next week's video!

My longest iron is my 6. I added a 25 degree hybrid, a 7 wood with 21 degrees and a 4 wood 16.5 degrees. Not.perfect, but i have around 15-20 yards gap between the clubs. My 4 eood is my fairway finder, when i struggle with my driver. The 7 wood is as long as my old 5 wood. Higher flight. Stops on the green fast. Try a 7 wood

Thanks for the comment and advice - much appreciated and interesting to hear your set up. I’ll definitely give some thought to a 7 wood and see if that’s worth trying out. A higher trajectory would be good, especially for those firmer summer greens. My 3 wood is usually fairly handy when the driver isn’t playing ball, but I have also given considerable thought to a driving iron to give me another option. That said, my focus really does need to be on the 5-hybrid area first!

@@AndysGolfBlog I guess my setup was very similar to the first commentor. I tried a 25* 5-hybrid for a while, but once I got good with the 6-iron and tried a 7-wood, I decided to only carry one hybrid and have never taken out the 5-hybrid again.

Yeah, I suspect that's the case for many people. Hybrids were all the rage a few years ago but I just don't like them all that much. Personally, I'd much rather hit an iron than a hybrid, but I'm always happy with my 3 wood, so suspect the loftier wood might be a good option for me. I think what I probably don't feel comfortable with is the shape of the hybrid head. I know that sounds really silly but you've got to like the club that you're hitting at address!

I'm wondering how you deal with the PW/GW gap too.

Generally not as big an issue. Although my data for 2023 suggests almost 30 yards difference, that’s not really the case. I think the PW data may be off slightly depending on how often I used it or what courses I’ve used it on. Generally speaking, I only get about 120 out of my PW and around 100 with my GW. If I’m looking at 110, I’ll favour a soft PW which will also take some spin off. If I need spin, I’ll go hard with the GW. Generally speaking, I think it’s easier to bridge the gap with wedges than longer irons. Taking a bit off of a PW doesn’t usually have as detrimental effect on flight or direction as a long iron for me. If I try to take something off a long iron, I usually end up pulling it well left. If I try to go hard, I usually end up pushing it! I’m going to produce a new video soon with my carry distances using my flight scope mevo, which will hopefully be a little more up-to-date.
