I had a zoom meeting with my recruiter almost 2 weeks ago. they basically said that instead of sending around 800 people a week it’s now down to 400. since this whole thing has started, about 4,500 people’s ship dates have been pushed back and so those are the people they are going to focus on getting shipped off sooner. my recruiter did bring up sending more mission essential jobs, he said those could be things like security forces and maintainers. information is constantly changing however so it’s best to try to stay up to date! hope this was helpful to some people!

I just graduated BMT on May 7th, I shipped out to BMT on March 17th. I was the very 1st to go through all COVID procedures from beginning to end. we only had 7.5 weeks. We were placed under observation for the 1st 2 weeks in the dorm. During this time we wore civilian clothes for the first few days and then PT gear for the 2 weeks. In the 3 WOT we got put together with our flight and got our OCP's and Blues. We were the 1st flights to do 5 days of BEAST again. We did a mock PT test so we all took a PT test and got scores, but they did not actually count and we will have to take technically our 1st PT test once the restrictions are lifted, but we did take a mock one so that we could still get that experience.

I graduated June 4th. My start date was April 15th. By the time I made it to basic training, things were better but they still changed every single day. The first two weeks we were in ROM and we couldn't leave the squadron whatsoever. During that time we had an MTI everyday and we basically did drill, studied, RLA (recruit living area) and details. We had to wear a mask at all times and they had us 6 feet apart for all activities. We did BEAST for 3 days. There was no gas chamber and we didn't do the obstacle course. We did have to take a PT test and we did take the EOC. PT was a challenge for some ppl bc there were limited run days and we didn't PT in the first two weeks or the last two weeks. Lastly, they had us stay in "tent city"(yes tents) for the last 5 days in order to sanitize the squadron. I'm in tech school now and we're not doing phase tests. Everyone automatically phases up as long as they don't get in trouble. And I do not have to go through a restriction of movement quarantine.

Doing DEP meetings over zoom is definitely a bummer. I was looking forward to hikes and stuff like that with my recruiter. But it is what it is! I’m glad they’re still keeping us updated on the calls! Thank you for posting this!

May 31st 2020 I’m shipping out in 2 weeks and notes for ship out changes. 1. TWO weeks before you leave for BMT you MUST self quarantine. When you ship out you must sign a document attesting that you complied. 2. Number of people shipping out is cut in 1/2. To make room and abide by social distancing, you may get a phone call one, two, three weeks before your ship out date which will inform you that your date of shipment has been pushed back. 3. If your shipment date is pushed back there is a likely chance that you will lose that job. That being said they trying to keep people having the same job even if their date is changed- don’t panic 4. The day you ship out they take your temperature, if you are running a fever you will not be allowed to go. 5. There may or may not be a two week post BMT mandatory quarantine before tech school.

Aydana Tasbolat Ah I see well recruiting offices just opened back up today here and I’m meeting face to face with mine on Wednesday. I’m not sure about NY perhaps so you might want to try and get in contact with recruiters in your area. Try looking up recruiters within a 40 mile radius of you. That’s how I got in contact with one but it’s important to be patient. I waited 3 weeks for someone to get back to me (that’s also when covid was in its prime so it might be a lil better now) good luck to you girly! ☺️ lmk if you have any questions!

I graduated mid march and we found out at BEAST that our families won’t be able to attend our graduation. At this point we couldn’t even imagine that corona was such a big deal because our MTI’s just kept saying it’s just a flu that’s blown out of proportion. We were sitting at attention for 20mins in silence without knowing what was going on. Then we saw our MTI’s step in with our phone boxes, and then they told us to call our families and tell them. Lots of tears that week and then the day we came back from BEAST they told us we are graduating in 3 hours. It was crazy. But now there is a whole process and when I was in tech school at Keesler AFB we saw the first group of BMTers go there as well. I think they are planning to continue sending new people there. I shipped March 3rd when things were normal and graduated April 24th. If i learned anything from going through basic through this, is things literally change every single day and every hour. Sometimes our MTIs didn’t know info and could only tell us to standby. Or tell us one thing and it change an hour later. I was in the 1st squadron to move to another. And we had like an hour to pack and move everything. It’s hard to give specific information to anyone rn. If you need the information and things to be certain then maybe you should wait until this is over. But if you can be flexible then the af will do their best to keep you safe and try to train you at the same time.

Another great video for those out there trying to enlist during this crazy times. I had a 2 week quarantine period when i arrived here at Seymour Johnson AFB, NC. I was in lodging but was also able to go to the bx and commissary to get essential necessities/food because here you don't have to be closed in your doorm room/lodging. Our "Defac" is under construction and closed so we don't get food delivered to us during that quarantine time like maybe other bases do.

@@EloraJean I'm married with dependents but they're not with me yet because of the stop movement thing with TMO. I did moved to my house on base from lodging and had to get a waiver to have TMO to go to my home address and get my stuff. I have good leadership who worked with me and got that approved, and i now have a date to go home next week, get my family(hubby & 2 daughters), dogs, my house and bring them here. Girl it's a process for sure and i feel for all those families in the military that are going thru the same process that i am/did. I love to see your videos because they helped me when i first joined last year and they're helping others that are in the process now. Im working on getting my moral waiver cleared with my recruiter right now. thankfully my number one job pick (bioenvironmental engineering) is on the list of jobs the Air Force needs I have to pick from. UPDATE! So it was as exactly as I said. They made us all wear masks and there were social distancing implementations put in place. We had to start at the Hotel. We had to get our temperatures checked and covid paperwork signed. We then headed to Maps for testing. I drove myself. I tested at MEPS but there were so many people testing that I had someone to the left into the right of me at the immediate computers. I drove myself back to the hotel from MEPS. We were not allowed to socialize and had to eat our dinners in our rooms. Later that night, there was a briefing. There were 70 of us. They split us up into two groups for the briefing. The next morning we all have to have our temperatures checked again. We went to Maps and had our physicals. And had to remain socially distant at all times. (Which was difficult.) overall, I would say it’s not much different Van normal at the Indiana MEPS

Lyndsey Bonnet hi ! Congratulations! No matter what, they are going to give you access to do laundry. Many girls in my flight, including myself, was told to bring two weeks of clothes and we only wore them for a couple days before we got pt gear. Then you will wear that pt uniform and your personal clothes will be locked away in a room.

I went to bmt on 3/3/20 and graduate 4/24/20 in about 7/1/2 weeks got a week cut off. My first three weeks was normal than the last four they started doing social distancing and making everyone wearing masks. I didn't do a official PT test have to in tech school and some things they cut while I was there was the gas chamber, EOC test. Graduation was a lot different and alter a lot of stuff to do in beast week but still kept CATM and Claw. My flight was in 320th squadron for four weeks and then 323 the last few weeks to align all the 5th week trainees in one squadron and the other 1st-4th week trainees in other squadrons together. Everything can change at a givens notice at bmt.

Nilsa Mendez so basically for me, I was the last flight to go through a do a real PT test / Full BEAST week. Everyone who graduated after me did 1 or 2 days of beast and didn’t do a real PT test. They only did pushups and running but not the sit-ups

Can I ask why just out of curiosity? My bf and I have been in DEP for 7 months, our ship dates are for the end of July and they haven’t been pushed back at all thankfully. Our MEPS (NY) is still fully functioning so maybe that’s why.

@@amberlee795 no idea im guessing it has to do with job slots. Its constantly changing. The air force is focusing on high needs jobs. And a lot of people are extending their contracts. Mix that with not having reduced class sizes. And so on

angel mahone I can’t say what happens now. It’s been 2 months and so much has changed since left. when I went March 10 I processed as usual first week. Then the people after did wait the 2 weeks and I think now they do it normal.

Hello Elora. I suggest you do some research on being active duty for six years versus being on active to for four years or less. With your six year enlistment, You will have full access to the VA with a subscription plan for free for life. In your 20’s that means nothing, But you will value it when you get older.

I just swore in July 15th and I just had a job opening for Health Administrative Management August 18th! They called me 3 weeks before shipping out and I took it! I’m super excited that I’m shipping so fast cause I know that’s not normal. Has anyone recently just come out of BMT? I’m trying to prepare as much as possible. I’m already physically fit and I’m getting 42 sit-ups, 18 pushups, and 1.5 run in 15:30. However I’m wondering how bad the PT test is gonna be with ROM happening?

I always follow up with my recruiter, there’s probably 100 people emailing him I’m sure following up will remind him of what he’s doing for you. Don’t be afraid to contact them regularly, my recruiter is super cool and likes to be reminded of questions and stuff I’m waiting on a response for they forget often lol

I ship June 23rd and I’m so excited 😭 But I kind of settled for a job low on my list because my recruiter said something along the lines of, “all the jobs for the rest of the year are posting because of the virus and I can’t promise you anything.” I’m not sure if that’s true but that prompted me to just take the computer job I was offered. My question isn’t related to the topic of the video but I figured I’d ask: How hard is it to apply to become an officer as an enlistee? I have a bachelors degree but was curious of the process for already enlisted. I decided to go enlisted first because I know the officer process is long and I just wanted to start my life away from my hometown as quickly as possible. Do you have any insight on that?

If you have a high enough ASVAB score and a desire to do something more than security forces, I would recommend it. Based on experiences I hear from people at this base. Some hate it, some love it, hard to tell.

My uncle was in the marines and I leave in two weeks 😂he told me to do push ups every hour and you’ll get better. He says you get better with push ups by just doing them. So maybe like 10 push ups every hour. Set an alarm lol you’ll be okay

Can I suggest making a video, if you haven't, on accessories that can be worn within regulations? If your AFSC allows. For example accessories like sunglasses, watches, earrings. Nail polish? I've seen females wear red nail polish to pastel blue polish. New airman here.. Another would be how to interact with officers? (Indoors?) I might have missed officer interaction 101 and may have been a wingman too many few times and I left my BMTSG in tech school which I greatly regret. 🥺 I apologize if my suggestions are... silly. 😩

Hey! Thanks for the suggestions. I've already made a video detailing personal appearance, to include jewelry and hair accessories :) I hope it's helpful for you. As for as interacting with officers goes, I think it's something incoming Airmen don't need to worry about until they're actually in! At which point there is a handy-dandy AFI 1-1 booklet which helps break down etiquette. That, in combination with learning through experience, is the best bet for someone worried about officer&enlisted interactions.
