Using dristan nose spray for 10 years completely ate away my septum , started using it for a stuffed nose and ended up getting hooked on it , my nose was stuffed 99% of the time and only way to clear it was with nose spray, it’s called rebound action , trust me don’t use any type of nose spray

I'm in the same boat Dino. That stuff ripped a huge hole in my nose, and it's too big to fix right now. Nasal spray effectively destroyed my life and I'm not even 40. It feels like there is a sharp wind tunnel in the center of my nose daily.

@@SurgeCess geez I know exactly what you mean and what your going through , worst mistake in my life getting that first bottle of nose spray !! I would go through a bottle of driztan nose spray in two days , slept with it , had one in each of my cars , had one at work , and what felt the worst was when u have a plugged nose and no nose spray!! And the stores are closed lol , almost like an addict needing his fix !! Stay In touch !

@@SurgeCess Same here. I drive my own truck for a living in the Midwest. The salt on the road turns to dust in the winter and pretty much gets in everything in the truck. Between that and a sinus infection, I got a pretty big hole. I thought I was blowing/picking out giant boogs but it was actually my nose trying to heal. I started using afrin like a dummy and it just made things worse. Waiting on insurance to kick in to get it looked at. This is gonna be one surgery I don't want to get, but I know it needs to be done😔

My parents told me If I didn't stop picking my nose I'd pick a hole right through it. Thought they were lying like when parents say stop making ugly faces/sticking your tongue out or your face will freeze like that. Come to find out they weren't lying. Wasn't I surprised to learn I really did pick a hole through my nose

I’m 22 and have a large hole from years of occasional drug use and excessive picking. Just had an appointment at and ENT and they said no one will touch it if it’s drug induced. Going to try to go private but worried no one will be able to fix it. So full of regret and sadness right now! 😢

None of these ENTs can help and the stupid steroid sprays to they gave me made it worse. I get two hours of sleep a night now, life is a never-ending nightmare. Why can't I find the right help

I was born with a septal perforation but didn't find out until I was 27, and as such, always had unexplainable nasal crusting causing me to pick my nose, and of course every doctor ever recommends Flonase when they hear I have allergies. I had a septoplasty a year ago and was fine for seven glorious weeks, followed after care instructions as if they were my new religion, and the perforation came back anyway. This time it's 3mm in width, too small to place a nasal button so it requires another operation. But first I'm being tested for GPA and other autoimmune conditions to make sure I don't have something of that nature going untreated before they try again.

I could have had it done for free but as it was during covid I would have been waiting a long time. I also had a deviated septum which I was unable to breathe with so lots going on and I decided to pay. There seemed to be an option on the NHS at least. Are you in the UK?

I was born with a deviated septum but didn't know about this until my 20's. I used dristan and my septum started to get a hole. I had surgery in 1992 to fix the deviation but unfortunately the damage was done. I recently visited a doctor that told me the hole is too big to treat and basically I have no options. This saddens me. My oxygen levels are really good and the bridge of my nose seems very good (his words) but the hole is too large for surgery. Should I get a second opinion?

I can answer this for you. Unfortunately no :/ mine was the size of a pea, and it's now the size of a twistie because I keep picking it. The septum is cartilage. Cartilage doesn't heal in the way most skin does as its not in the first place. The scabbing, if taken away (bloody boogers) permanently removes a little bit of septum. Get it? The scab u took away bleeds, reforms and if u take that one away again u just permanently removed more. Nose sprays can do it, sharp thin nails, drugs. A lot. But no matter what, the septum cannot heal, and constant abuse causes perforation.. Sorry :/
