Can you make your own car muffler?

3:13 Whenever you're welding sheet metal you want LOTS of tack welds to stop warping. Rule of thumb, when you think you have enough tack welds go back and put another one in between each tack.

i think you might have had a better time if you bent the holes in the inner tube so the flow goes out into the packing like a cheese grater just a thought

Maybe. I'm wondering it that would hurt exhaust flow though, by directing the exhaust gases(instead of just sound) into the packing and causing high pressure inside the muffler

@@JessLehman I've seen it used in factory mufflers over here in Aus we run cars on lpg and they are prone to a good backfire you get to see the insides of a muffler pretty often haha i get what your saying how about having 2 sets of them bent in one way to catch the flow and the opposite to act as little venturis equalizing pressure

I don’t think it sounded that bad, a couple feet of outlet pipe will give it some resonance and tame it down. Nice project 👍🏻

I still say you should build chambered ones like i did. I loved how mine sounded. It was pure luck but still.

It depends on your tastes I guess. It was very raspy. I hate rasp. That could probably be fixed by making a longer body and using actual car muffler packing instead of atv packing though.
