NIce video, i m a breeder from Europe, from Spain, i breed mostly hybrids, i ve won gold medal on the spanish national show with an hybrid between Common Redpoll and Greenfinch. Hybrids are extremely difficult to create, mainly beacause behavior differences between species, or genetics differences. Now, i ve been trying to breed hybrids between zebra finches, society finches, star finches, long tail finchs, etc for the las 3 years, and I only obtained 1 chick, after more than 100 eggs, is extremely difficult, and there is not many information on internet about which species are more close genetically and easy to obtain hybrids between them, but I will keep trying for sure.

I share your opinion about hybrids, I think there is nothing wrong with breeding hybrid birds as long as they are infirtile though. But it is better to avoid it if you do not have a certain goal for your hybrid birds. In Europe breeding mules and hybrids is common but is mostly focused on creating beatiful showbirds and exellent songbirds (for example goldfinch/canary mule). Fertile hybrids or hybrids from very closely related species of birds are not allowed on the birdshows in the Netherlands. Nice video once again.

I personally think that hybridization in parrot finches depletes and compromises greatly the availability and preservation of the pure species and confuses the average non educated buyer recently in miami mule blue face/red face hybrids were been sold at a pet shop I think its really bad the owner was not educated nor care to inform the public I told him and thought that that was a beautiful bird period I personally think the birds are not pretty mixing those colors in the face, the dilution of both colors is neither blue or red and patched I think hybridization of finches has a place and time and more importantly a purpose and shouldn't be the public average pet store owner to decide it should be left to experiment with seasoned breeders that care about species breeding and preservation so I agree and disagree as well depending the application. Personally I love each species

I have two male red headed pied parrot finch, one is mainly green, the other mainly yellow. The pied hen is mainly yellow, which cock should I put her too. I will get another hen for the other cockbird. Ty in advance

Depends what you want. Yellow + yellow will make pieds with a lot more yellow, yellow + green will make birds that are moderately yellow.

something to clarify on your video... parrot finch hybrids ARE fertile and can easily be mixed back into other breeding flocks, which I don't think is a good thing. the hybrids in Europe are canary hybrids primarily. mixing with european, siberian, etc goldfinches siskins and other related species. the euro lutino gouldian (brown head not red) originated as a hybrid of the lutino blue faced parrot finch that was then bred back into the gouldians to establish the line. I've seen red-throated x blue faced hybrids sold as red-eared, blue faced x forbes being sold as forbes, etc. If i had the money i'd buy these birds if only to remove them from potentially being mixed into the gene pool of pure species, but that's not always an option.

Great video. Is this the same advice if I add gouldian Finches to an aviary with parrot finches, as I read thru can also hybridise with each other?

I have kept Gouldians, red faced and blue headed parrot finches together in an aviary of only medium size and have never bred hybrids. Luck I guess..the harder I work, the luckier I get.

With hybridization, why would it create sterile mules when it happened in the Big Bird Lineage in Galapagos and now they're a new species of Finch?
