When it comes to alternative fuels, ethanol is one of the most popular options. E85 is a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, and it can be used in vehicles that are compatible with it. People often wonder if they can use regular gasoline instead of E85 in their vehicles. In this video we'll discuss if you can mix E85 and regular gas and whether that is safe or not.

I have heard it all. E85 will not cause knock. You need to do more homework before making another video. I have a non-Flex and use only E30 for years with 275,000 miles and no issues. Tens of thousand of consumers here in the Mid-west also run E30.

E85, as you said, earlier in the video, which you contradicted yourself later, doesn’t have as much energy as gasoline. Alcohol burns slower than gasoline, therefore increasing octane. This is why it is so desirable in boosted vehicles as long as you tune for it.

Jumpstart Gasoline of Kansas has been do'n this for some years now, their premium grade gas is actually E30 w/92-93 octane. Ethanol destroys rubber seals so don't use it too often but once in a while to clean up the fuel system👌

If a cars computer is programmed to run on e85 it definitely produces more horse power by a lot so I’m not sure why he’s saying there’s no evidence. There’s plenty of dyno tests to prove

So today I've learned that E85 has the fantastic ability have both less specific energy output and more -- at the same time. Wow!

More expensive? LOL E85 is $3 in my area and gasoline is $5.50.

I got here looking into trying a blend of mostly 87 regular unleaded with e85 to raise the octane for my carbureted car, and hope to find a good balance. I would have to use up the blend in one driving session, refilling tank with 91 before parking it to avoid corrosive damage to the carburetor. Will be installing TBI fuel injection soon anyways. Figure a 70-30 blend and find out. But yeah, this video is repetitive and contradictory!

*NOTE:* This video is all over the place and contradicts itself several times. *First the video says:* [5:42] _"For example: If you use too much E85 in your tank, the engine may start knocking and pinging. _*_This is because ethanol has MORE energy than regular gasoline_*_ and can overload the engine if it's not adjusted for it."_ *But, then the video says:* [7:37] _" Generally speaking however, using E85 ... is not likely to result in any significant performance gains. In fact, _*_in some cases it may even REDUCE performance. This is because E85 has LESS energy content than gasoline."_*

This video is a childish and superficial attempt to address the issue of using ethanol fuel. The following are my critiques of the video's information in sequential order to match the video. Flex fuel vehicles do NOT have engines and fuel systems specially designed to run on E85. The systems and engines are the same as non-flex fuel. The difference is in the software in the onboard computer. It merely recognizes the different fuel. Where in the U.S. is E85 more expensive than E0 or E10? All spark-ignited internal combustion vehicles (gasoline-powered), regardless of age and manufacture, can run on E85. This includes cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, go-carts, etc. If the vehicle is not flex fuel, you may not want to fill the tank completely with E85, but you can certainly mix the E85 with E0 or a lower blend. This will save money on each gallon of E85 that you use, increase the level of octane in the vehicle's fuel, and be less polluting. Energy content (BTUs) is irrelevant. Engine optimization is the key. The computers in modern vehicles have NO ability to increase or decrease the level of ethanol vs. gasoline that flows into the engine. Carburetors in older vehicles have NO ability to increase or decrease the level of ethanol vs. gasoline. The fuel is mixed when it is pumped into the tank, and it stays mixed. Ethanol-gasoline blends have NOT been in use for more than a decade, they have been in use for more than 100 years. America's experience and use of ethanol-gasoline blends is just a very small part of the experience. Ethanol does not have more energy than gasoline, it has a higher octane rating. There is no such thing as "pure gasoline." Gasoline is a complex compound of many ingredients that can change depending on season, altitude, brand, and availability of ingredients. For the 2nd time, energy content (BTUs) is irrelevant. Engine optimization is the key. Ethanol is an octane booster. If your vehicle needs an octane boost, then just use ethanol.

Learn what you are talking about, before you make a video. I believe that the Ford model T was built to run on Ethanol, but gas was more readily available.
