Dude, you answered so many questions for me. I was doing some plumbing work on my RV and noticed it had Pex A pipe with Pex B fittings and steel crimp rings. At first I thought this might be a problem but it's not. You confirmed that for me! Thanks!

Looked at so many sooooo many videos and this one is exactly what I was looking for. Great demonstration!!! Ton of info. Great job man!

Thank you! You answered the one question that I really wanted to know, and now I understand why other plumbers probably didn’t mention it: I was wondering if Pex A fittings would work with crimp rings. I could see that the design of the bumps was different, so it didn’t look safe. But how bad was it? Oh, right: they literally physically don’t fit without an expansion tool. That’s why none of the people doing pressure testing demos show the results: because it’s physically impossible. Thanks. :)

Finally someone explaining it properly/

PEX A can be crimpped with stainless steel sleeves too.

Keep in mind that pex B fittings have a smaller inside diameter than the pipe so they are a bit restrictive. Pex A fittings have the same inside diameter as the pipe so there is much better flow.

I was curious if heating the pex b line and pushing it on the pex A fitting would workout. I tried to do it and it seemed like it would, I could see that after it cooled it seemed to shrink and form around the fitting nicely. However, I never bothered to try putting any pressure through the line, I replaced the fitting with a pex B instead.

I think you made the right call there! I'll bet it would work by stretching the pipe with heat, but it would definitely be a weak spot in the future...

@HomesteadBandwagon I went with the pexB and got all brass fittings, bought the tool that crimps the clamps. I thought I did all investigating I could, even work at a place with the exact same set up that I was doing...and it all leaked...every place I had a fitting. So needless to say, I gathered everything I could salvage in hopes of getting some of the money back, and bought all copper lines and fittings and it all went smoothly AND no leaks! I'll never waste my time or money on pex again. Not a fan. But on upside, a lesson learned.

@AndrewHamblin-y5v that's wild. I've never had a leak with brass fittings and brass crimp rings.

I've got a slew of old fittings. was wondering if they are pex a or b. guess it don't matter now for my shop b pipe. thanks

I don’t believe that is correct. Pex A fittings are too large to use with Pex B pipe. You need to use an expansion tool to expand the pipe, or else they simply won’t fit.
