I feel like for Europeans this is far easier than for people from the US. I'm from Germany and we can easily drive by car to Luxemburg, Lichtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, Slovenia, the Vatican, Andorra and usually know someone who spent some holidays in Malta. So that's kind of cheap knowledge for us. I'd find it harder if I had to name 5 small countries in Africa (let me try, Africans here, please don't kill me: Eswatini, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire and now I'm stuck, because all other countries I can remember are to my impression not really small. I know there are some other small countries in the western part of the continent, but don't remember which countries these are). In South America I'd also have trouble. Can Uruguay be considered small? Where do Trinidad and Tobago belong to in terms of continents? ...

I just wanted you to know that because I've been watching your stuff (amongst loads of other national history/geopolitics content on YT) I've been striving to improve my geography skills :D I like taking those quizzes where you're given fifteen minutes to name as many countries as possible - my record is current 186 out of 197 ;p As well as those flag quizzes where you have to name each nation's flag. Being quite an Africa nerd I tend to get _almost_ every country in that continent, but doing these quizzes repeatedly I'm honing in on the blatant gaps in my knowledge. Some flag specific examples - I'm getting way better at recognizing all the small island nations in Oceania and their cool sci-fi looking flags, have been surprised by the realization of just how many nations exist in CENTRAL America (distinct from the North and South), annoyed with my own bad habit of getting flags of the Balkans confused with one another, noticing just how many flags are a variation of green/yellow/red stripes (I'm ashamed to say I almost always forget who those are!), that there are an inordinate amount of "guineas" in the world, and that despite knowing how problematic it is I *absolutely* have a mental tier list of my favourite/least favourite flags. Do you have a favourite flag based entirely on it's visual design, Lingualizer? If you're comfortable answering of course!

Actually, can go worse. You know this videos where someone asks people on the street. Some guy does it all the time in Germany ans once asked "How many people live in Germany?" and some people where like "1.000? No wait.. 3 million?" Some people also got shook when they heard that it's 83 million ... "Name the German staates and their capital cities" is also a hard one for some people... of cause you can get all 16 staates but not everyone will know the capital of it but at least you can get the capital of the city-staates and from the one you live in if its not a city-staate but there are still people who get it wrong. Another great one is "What was the capital city of Germany before it became Berlin?" many young people tend to go for "Wait Berlin wasn't allways the capital?" Well before Germany was re-united the capital of "West Germany" was Bonn. Bonn is in the staate called Nordrhein-Westfalen (Eng: Northrhein-Westfalia) or short NRW. The capital city of NRW is Düsseldorf (wich also quit many people tend to get wrong since Köln (Eng: Cologne) is around 400K people larger and so many people think that it was Köln instead of Düsseldorf)

Hi there. Great channel. I love how you have the ability to speak to people in their language. There is a confusion with the term America. To Europeans, America means the Americas. To me (an Australian), America means the U.S.A. To "Americans" it can be either or in some minds it's North America. Europe was mistakenly made into a continent. IMO, Europe is the western part of Eurasia. Different countries have opinions on what the continents are. Most importantly the United Kingdom is a country that is comprised of "Nations". Like the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia were. The U.K. competes as Great Britain in the Olympic games, but they are separate "Nations" in the Rugby Union and (soccer) Football 'World Cups'. England, Wales and Scotland are Nations, but are all part of the country called U.K. or GB, aka the UK of GB. Saying that Wales or Scotland is a country is like saying Greenland or Catalunya is a country. Currently incorrect. Scotland has been a country in the past, back in the days of Henry VIII for example. There was a time, before the modern U.K., where the King of England was also the King of Scotland, James I of England was James VI of Scotland. In conclusion, Scotland and England are nations but the country is the United Kingdom. In the days of King James I, they were two countries with the same King. Wales was part of the kingdom of England. Now Wales is part of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or U.K. of G.B. & N.I. There have been other "marriages" between countries. Austria-Hungary, Poland and Lithuania, and of course Czechia and Slovakia. Czechia and Slovakia remained together after the breakup of Austria-Hungary. You are Austrian, I am Australian. This is in English, in German, Österreich translates to "Eastern Realm or East Kingdom". So, what was the "Western" Kingdom? It has to be Bavaria (Bayern). You are a language buff. 😀 I am a geography buff. 😀 Once we get them learning all the countries, we can get them to learn some "Federated countries". I learnt a few of the German states, when I did a project on Germany last year. They are a few city states very small size and some large ones. Australia has 6 states, one of which is the island state of Tasmania. There are 2 main territories as well as other minor ones. The U.S.A., Mexico and India are also Federations, Canada and New Zealand are not. The U.K., mentioned earlier, is one state, with nations, and various governments, a special case indeed. The Scots and Northern Irish have their own parliaments but also have representatives in the British one.
