Two important things for battles: 1. Harden only increases the Defense stat, which only affects the power of physical attacks such a Tackle. Which means it doesn't affect the power of special moves such as Ember. 2. If you boost stats with moves such as Harden, changing your Pokemon mid-battle will take away those boosts. So if you use Harden a bunch of times, DON'T switch out if unnecessary. I hope you keep going, this series is hilarious!

Hey Kevin. If you switch out Pokémon during battle, all the stat boosts (i.e. the six Hardens) go away. Also, something that might help your tackles pack more of a punch would be to purchase a bunch of X Attacks and use six of them during a fight. X Speeds would also be helpful to make you go first. One tip you will need Kevin: Pokemon attacks are divided in physical and special groups before gen 4 that divide was by type. Meaning all water attacks are special attacks. Harden increases your physical defense though, so Mistys water attacks were not affected. You should google which types were which in gen 3 and use that to decide which pokemon harden makes sense against. As far as i know fire, electric, water, psychic, dark, grass, ice and dragon are special and all others are Physical. Edit: Corrected some spelling and which type is which.

Also going along with that, switching out resets stat boosts and stat drops. So if you switch you won't be hard anymore but you won't have sand in your eyes either. Critical hits also ignore stat boosts from moves like harden, but do not ignore stat drops.

He won't make it that far. Metapod doesn't learn cut. To even gain access to the next gym leader, he will need to have a non metapod in his squad. Which given the state of his Metapod army in this battle would mean that pokemon would need to be used against the gym leader most likely thus breaking the rules of the challenge.

He's going to be stuck at lavender tower for a while since metapod can only learn tackle. Although he could use struggle to hit those ghost types. I've done a mono bug type in fire red and even with fully evolved pokemon winning against the elite four was sheer luck. Getting past Lorelei is probably as far as he'll make it with just metapods.

If he evolved some of his younger metapods it could pick up some useful attacks like gust at 28 and psybeam at 34 though he missed out on confusion at 10 and the powders. He could use some tms though if he isn't using cheats he won't be able to teach them to his whole party.

Just to help Kev. If you swap out a pokemon that has had it's stats boosted, like with harden, and the swap back in it loses the boost. Unless you have a move like baton pass

Kevin, there's Defense that's defends you from Physical attacks and Special Defense that works on attacks that use Special Attack, Harden only raises normal Defense which is the reason that Misty deals so much defense. Stats can be changed by +/- 6 stages, also the stat changes get reset when you change Pokemons

I like these series video style it nice and I personally prefer it to standalone random vids

Flying types are birds, hence they are super effective against bugs. Also, you cannot beat the game even if you start with level 100s caterpies/metapods, you need surf, cut, and strength, to beat the game. Challenge is impossible. It would be possible with lickitung, mew, or Krabby. That being said if this continues, and you cut out the dungeon segments where you need HM's I would love to see if you can beat Blaine with a full team of level 100 Metapods.

Its likely not possible, given his arcanine will use fire blast and one shot even a fu HP calm metapod though than again if you use EVs maybe
