I did actually try doing this just for fun, but you can't fully take over another actor, unfortunately. You can actually control them (like where they walk) but not make them attack or activate anything. The dying part, on the other hand, would be simple to do. I just opted not to do it as I figured Joov would have a hard enough time getting from Riverwood to Whiterun.

You should play this challenge in Oblivion. Oblivion NPC's have much more freedom in their choices and they also have set routines, as in they go different places as the day/week progresses. Some npcs even go from town to town on certain days and so, it would be more interesting in my opinion. Skyrim's npcs (sadly) are very railroaded.

The 'host' idea is pretty neat. Imagine starting as a smaller chaurus that can take over a host. You control the NPC. If the NPC dies, you pop back out or you can choose to abandon the host (doing so causes the host to die).
@UnknownSquid2 жыл бұрын
There actually used to be an old mod that pretty much did this, except without the chaurus aspect, and that if you died you were just dead. Sadly it was unfinished and buggy, and the mod author claimed he wasn't able to fix it to a satisfactory degree, but for the short time I experimented with it anyway, it was pretty cool. It basically gave you a spell that would let you possess any other humanoid NPC and become them with full control, able to chain into others without returning. Your old body would become an NPC and simply sandbox in the area you left it. You'd inherit the new hosts HP/magicka etc, as well as all equipped inventory (losing yours and keeping theirs). One bug that actually worked out really cool, was that any tattoos/warpaint you had on your original character would transfer over to the new host. I started out as a witch in BlackReach, and ventured out to possess a hunter from the nearest inn. It was really cool when I realised the spooky eye markings I'd picked carried over. Sadly, it did crash incredibly frequently, especially after I'd made a few body swaps, even with nearly all other mods disabled. Eventually I had to give up on playing it any further. Was an awesome concept though.

If the hat started taking damage without a host, it would justify/balance your ability to move around when you're disembodied. I would legitimately play a save that way.
