@Picobits2 жыл бұрын
I would definitely say that while charity shops can be a good source of a bargain, you'll get both better items and prices at car boot sales - people actually getting money for their stuff rather than donating it, but also people wanting to get rid of their old stuff for a little bit of money rather than going to a dump.
@paulbrooks21752 жыл бұрын
I agree to an extent. It will always be the case of a lot of rich people donating to charity shops than doing a boot sale. Some of the stuff I've found in a charity shop would never get seen at a boot sale. Today in a charity shop I picked up a Salvatore Ferragamo linen suit, missoni shirt, Gucci striped shirt. Nothing of this standard has been at a boot sale with working class folk selling obviously.

That’s a good question
@Chaddypete2 жыл бұрын
It’s a good question. I think it all starts from what you are picking up in the first place. I always check if there is a market for the things I pick up, that’s why you see me leave things which everyone else would pick up because I know it may just sit for a long time. Things sometimes still don’t sell though, so I tend to auction them off or, something I haven’t done yet, sell them at the carboot!

Dublin Ireland, our charity shops are having a field day with the amount of itams they receive. They pick and choose only the best and want it delivert to their shop's. The prices the charge are not far of the origanal price tag, I kid you not. Ordinary Wall picture's start at 50 euro old suites of furniture 275 euro, on and on. How could a family that was on low income and were trying to start a little home together. They wouldn't see any charity in those shops. Money mad their gone. Profits that's all they care about. If you donated say a suite of furniture today come back to that shop tomorrow try get a little discount on a itam, you would be told no discounts. It left a bitter taste.

They're all a lot of people have come the autumn/winter months too (out of car boot season) but there are still bargains out there. Did you walk out of the shop without paying for the belt lol. I guess you could call that pure profit 😂 BTW, as you were wondering about FCUK, I once worked for a guy called Trevor Beattie, he came up with 'FCUK' as an advertising campaign for French connection. It was so popular they rebranded the stores as FCUK and started selling it on clothes. It helped turn the business around. Obviously over the years the stores that are left have now gone back to being called French connection.

@Nicky L That's true. Short term it worked well. As an ad campaign it was very effective. It was only meant to get them noticed and be a bit edgy but instead of leaving just as advertising, they went and rebranded and sold clothing as FCUK as well. People started to see it as tacky/ a one trick pony and nobody wanted to buy expensive clothes which were basically just a short lived trend.
