This is so funny, I've been following you for a while now and never realised you were from around here. I lived just south of Blue Rock for eight years. Anyway, l hope you do well out of the rest of your rock crush. 👍

Fantastic reminder of the area, Andy, what a rush of memories. Dad's mate had bought a nice vessel with two giant outboard motors, and done the tour of the Great Lakes... of Victoria! Hume, Eildon, Blue Rock, I don't think there were launches into the Thomson, but yes at Glenmaggie. At the shores where you'd seen the shafts and adit, I'm fairly sure our family and dads' mate's had walked along an inclined road with remnants of machinery and whatnot, we thought from the building of the dam further down, or for the old Tanjil township road cuts towards the old pools. I think I'd mentioned before about the Tanjil Bren area, and Tanjil River that'd been flowing in a raging torrent, and another spot that had riverine gravels at the top of a hill... where I'd found lyrebird tail feathers! A sign! I still have them. Anyhoo, neat gold for the scratches you had on Russell Creek, the Russell Mine though is seemingly a long way from the waters, and you'd found them unmarked workings which must have been closer to the old township, maybe from the original rush. Having a boat to access certain sites is bloody interesting to think about, we certainly were thinking salt water locations, which islands you're looking to visit that carry gold, I'm not aware of any, except if they're unknown shipwreck or visitation sites, sealers, whalers, or uppity bathing beaches, but there are creeks flowing into both bays that hold alluvial gold, as well as gemstones, a line of volcanic plugs along Victoria's coastline. Cheers and onya.

I did wonder how many thought my boat clues were going to be in the sea, So much history in the area so why not use the lake as an access point to places cut off to vehicles. Many mines in the Tanjil goldfields are not marked or recorded anywhere, making exploring even more fun in my book. There was enough sand in Russel Creek to think we were at the beach trust me haha Thanks for watching Gabi glad it bought back some cool memories for you.

Fantastic adventure Andrew! No dragging lures through those lovely snags? There’s something special about finding a place where you think not many..if any detectorist have been before! Good luck and great job! Cheers, James
