Can You 🏃 RUN 🏃 After Total Knee Replacement?

I had a right knee total replacement 4 months ago, doing really well l would say l am 95% back to normal, swimming, walking up to 10 kms every day and on an Exercycle for 35 mins every other day. Last night l had 7 1/2 hours sleep without waking for the first time since the operation. So pleased as l can now go up and down stairs without pain, recommend if your unsure of having the op please do it, first couple of weeks were painful however when you get to week 5 you feel much better and begin to enjoy life once again.

Dumb question- would the pain of the surgery cause you to wake up? Or was it something else?

@@rogers6168 never a dumb question Roger,’ the pain wasn’t to bad after a couple of weeks it’s the taking the meds which helped with that one. Guess it’s a type of ache and the tightness of muscle and tendons that keep you awake, for the first 10 weeks or so l slept for two to two and a half hours and then nod off again 30 minutes later, l also felt tired during the day and would have a nap in the afternoon or go to bed early, at about the4 month mark l was sleeping for 4 and a half hours without waking, now l get a good 8 hours in Roger. The TKR was certainly worth it Roger, feeling so much better plus a major improvement in my quality of life. All the best.

@@rogers6168 a bit of pain, but mainly aching at the back of the knee managed to get a couple of hours sleep between wakes

I had total knee replacement in June 2023. I am 10 months post-op. My surgery was with the MAKO robot and without cement. I was a runner in the past. I ran a full marathon in 2018 after which I believe I injured my knee. My knee wasn't the same since that time. I stopped running put on some weight. Now 10 months post-op, I am back to square one. I am doing light jogging/walking intervals and I am losing the weight. I don't want to be a marathon runner again. I just want to be healthy, happy, and do an occasional 5K or even a 10K. I just didn't want to stop running. I have absoluetly no pain after my jog/walks. I think the kind of surgery used in your knee replacement does make a difference as well.

I've had both knees totally replaced, the right side with the Maco robotic assistance. Also my right hip is replaced. I've run many races in the last two years including 4 half marathons. Im 60 years old this month.

Hi, I had my TKR done last May, I've done sooooo much PT. I have about 7 hard lumps under the skin on top of the kneecap. My surgeon said they're sutures. I believe that's what's adding to recovery going so slow. I had arthroscopic surgery febuary of 2022 and then the knee replacement this past May. I switched physical therapist when I'm going to someone knew they're not sure what it is but, you can see them under my skin sticking out. Hard lumps.

I had TKR on my right leg 5 weeks ago. What is the best exercise I can do to help with strengthening muscle in leg to be able to stand for long periods of time?
