Trig Point. Love how interested Jada is in everything. We saw a similar caterpillar trail today on a hike. Fascinating. Poor Jack, his little legs expected to walk so far. He'll be running off soon enough. Love how patient you are and take time to explain everything to both kids, Sian.

The soft blur in photos is called "bokeh". If you're not familiar with the more manual modes it's achieved by lowering the F-stop number (opening the lens up to allow more light into the sensor). Flicking to "Av" or Aperture mode allows you to control the amount of blur while automating all other settings for best exposure. Old rule of thumb is F-16 for sunny days to make the sky pop - remembered by "sunny 16" F-11 on cloudier days to open the lens a touch more to compensate for less available light. F-5.6 and lower is where you start to get the blur becoming noticeable when at distance from the subject in focus depending on lens type/other factors.

Haven’t read all the other comments, but, that “ Structure “ , on top of hill/rock , is a Trig Point, used by survivors. They can see it from another hill when marking their coordinates 😎👍. Great episode ( my home country area ) , funny to see you guys so wrapped in it, where’s I am amazed by the tropical rain forests of North Queensland . Anyway thank you 😎👍

Another great episode. I was told the caterpillars do that to imitate a snake so the birds leave them alone. They could be totally wrong and they were pulling my leg but it sounded good 😁

It’s called a trig point which is a survey marker. There is usually a metal plaque or metal disc fixed to a solid object under it

The structure is a beacon and normally means that point is indicated on a map and shows the height above sea level at that point on the map.

When you view your photographs on a big screen smart TV you will appreciate the fact that you kept your camera in landscape or horizontal mode. Imagine cinemascope turned 90° on its side. Portrait or vertical mode creates huge blank spaces either side of a photograph a third of the landscape sized image. You will also wish that you had used video for action and liveliness instead of so many stills. You can always freeze frame a preferred still shot from a video, but you cannot easily animate a still shot. This is where SD memory cards have the advantage over solid state computer memories. In the future will they make devices to read memory cards? Who has a super 8 projector, or VCR player, or even a video disc player? It's called planned obsolescence. That's me and mine.

Re Trig points, Ask any pilot commonly call them spot heights the shape means you can see them from any angle. They are the survey of an area’s highest, point good for planning lower altitude flying. You can find them on aeronautical maps. Sadly with gps and electronic navigation their significance is no longer important, unless your flying very low like near an outback airdrome.

Tantrums should be ignored - they are a way that kids know to get your attention to do something that they don't want to do. I ignored my son at that age (but ensured he was still safe), and they soon realise that it doesn't work as well as it used to. The fun part is avoiding comments from other parents! He will get better as he gets older and is able to tell you what he wants, rather than you trying to interpret what he wants.

Very interesting nice to see some inland of Cape Eyre. The outside toilets here used to be called "Thunder Houses" !! Poor Jack and the thunder storm we had a real good one when we were last there at Maryborough, it went on for 2hrs the full works, loved it!! Any idea what the caterpillars hatch into, did Jayda take a couple in a jar if you are aware 😚. Take care for now...the UK Leg Ends x

landscape and portrait have nothing to do with background blur thats your appiture the wider your lens ie F5.6 you will get blur then F11 will be sharper

awesome video as usual, great to see something different, the rock structure is used by surveyors, you will see them on most high points. Pretty sure the caterpillars are spitfires, they are itchy to touch n mostly inhabit eucalyptus trees. Interesting that the wave formation is there as well as WA (much bigger in WA) also used to catch n store water and very similar landscape. So glad you persevered with Jack, you see it so many times, just as the child reaches their turning point the parents cave in and the opportunity is lost. Great to see the community involved in the tourist areas n they are well maintained

We don’t have a pocket any more and it’s mainly because we couldn’t interchange the battery and it wasn’t ideal in some of the outdoor settings we were going to… We also often needed an external mic due to the heavy wind and it just wasn’t ideal to run external parts like a mic all the time

Landscape is perfect for KZbin devices . eg tv computer screen. portrait would only be good for mobile devices . but they are what they say they are traditionally landscape good for outdoor scenary where as portrait is a more close up of a person .
