During Covid i was so depressed working from home and shut in the house with my son ,whom also was going to school remotely.. when i noticed my child was getting depressed due to the isolation.. i booked a flight to Mexico and rented an apartment with a pool and a rental car.. we went from being shut in during the winter depressed and repetitive days to sunshine and a happier quality of life.. work and school for us seemed like a breeze … and not a chore .. i say this to say people should be able to work in any country they want.. it helps with productivity.. your more happy , stress free and more productive… i love the continent of Africa. The only thing i hate is the time difference in working remotely, but im telling you being able to work remotely in any country is a huge benefit

"Port forwarding" router set ups are even better than using a VPN. Allows you to log into a company's VPN. If using a personal vpn provider, you can't "stack" vpns blocking the ability to log in to a company vpn.
@whatsupbudbud5 күн бұрын
Can you elaborate how this works?
@musiccreation11985 күн бұрын
@@whatsupbudbud I suspect the explanation might differ based on why you might want a port forwarding vpn solution. In my case, I needed to access my US based employers VPN from outside the US..without the company discovering via my ip address that I'm working from outside the US. Since I couldn't find a solution allowing "stacking vpns" , I found port forwarding. It's working extremely well. Via the consultation, I set up a router on a friend's home network in the US...along with a "travel modem" that connects to it. Once I returned home outside the US, I connected the travel modem to my network, connected an ethernet cable between the travel modem and my work computer...then I could connect to my employers VPN with the ip address (and ISP !!) of my friend's network. VPNs like ExpressVPN, Nord ... the ISP metadata can be a "red flag" to IT departments that take the time to look. Maybe you are network savvy enough to do the set up on your own, I was not willing to take that risk and hired a consultant , RIRT Media. He has a YT channel, Rocky in Reel Time. Hope this helps.

@@Ginakabamba-mr3ld if youre a US citizen it’s pretty simple way. If you find remote work it’s several ways to appear to be in the US but not be there and if you don’t want to do that I always suggest focusing on companies who already have international branches so they are used to working with teams in different places so it doesn’t put up red flags or you can internally transfer. Also smaller startups typically don’t care as well so those companies with under 50 employees they often don’t care as much. I think working remotely is possible as long as the job and its tasks allow it. With regards to moving abroad i was hoping for an explanation of how all these people handle immigration and (work) visas, social security, health insurance, taxes. From an employers perspective there are similar issues for corporate taxes, risk of local establishment, etc. Is it worth it to pay such companies to handle these topics for each and every possible combination you face depending on employees citizenship, country they want to be in? Will countries and all the regulatory systems change in the future to allow for more of these kind of movements?

Thanks for this. I'm really in a bind - not sure if this is the best situation I've ever had or the worst. I've been working fully remote for a global US based company for 2.5 years now. I have a thin client that was issued to me, and my work uses a VPN to connect. I'm going through a breakup right now and I have zero reason to stay at the location I'm in, which is a major metro city. At the same time, if I move away from my job it only decreases personal interactions and chances of advancement - it doesn't improve them. So, I'm in a bind because I may lose my living arrangement, my job, and my girlfriend (for sure,) and I need my job to be the one thing that pulls through so that I can move out of state. I first need to qualify that I live in the eastern part of the United States so my answer is in that context completely. I’m in my mid 50s and run a small service company. I’ve been in the United States my whole life and work since 14 years old, so I believe my perspective is qualified. I find younger generations to be extraordinarily lazy and lack of direction. I believe you are finding adequate value with remote workers because they’re paid roughly 1/3 to 1/4 of what I would have to pay someone to do the same amount of work here. Given long disparity in that pay scale it’s a hell of a lot easier to justify remote.

My work insisted that I not come into work from the start of Covid until the end of 2023. Even now, they only want us to come in occasionally at most and don't provide any food or beverage outlets in our building or nearby. Lots of the top bosses are quietly traveling. But they still insist people lower down work in-state close to the office. Hypocrites. I am tired of living here and I would hate having to go into work every day. Lots of traffic, parking, and general hassle just to be less productive. I'm so much happier when I can take short "workations" out of state and that rubs off on my work happiness as well. If I really need to go to work in person, I can grab a cheap flight (thanks frequent flyer points) to work (and my official home) for a day or two. That would be a lot harder to do if international. The stupid thing is that for ages we've used contract programmers who work remotely with no issues. We have a yearly retreat/get-together to review progress, discuss plans for the coming year, and socialize. That seems to work perfectly well.
