I cannot describe how uneasy yet intrigued this made me feel. Biting my nails for the neck shaving part. Great video though!

Oh wow. Using a yanagiba to shave? I would definitely have done a lot of stropping before that lol.

if you werent already aware, heres a pro tip: soft water is a game changer when shaving. even with the shave knife you wouldnt have nicked him at all. bust out old school organic soap and use as shave lather. DO NOT ATTEMPT IN HARD WATER

Good to know! I use a straight razor, but the water is very hard in Calgary so we've always put up with it. Why does soft water work better?

When you use soft water the soap doesn’t have anything to bond with so it doesn’t create a film of soap scum on your face which allows you to use real soap as lather. Secondly when you wash in soft water because there is no soap scum your natural body oils come to the surface of your skin making it smooth as hell. Mother natures lotion is our body oil. Should never never be “squeaky” !

@@KnifewearKnives also depending on the sensitivity of your skin, for me personally, when i use my straight razor with hard water it cause the blade to skip over your skin and if your sensitive like me then it causes razor burn and razor bumps every single time. to the point i thought i just had a dull razor until i realized it was the water quality the whole time. really life chagning stuff for me i always share this whenever possible.

Why not, a single bevel yanagiba is basically a (very) long kamisori. I'm using straight razors since 12 years (mostly old S.R. form Sheffield and more recent Thiers Issard from France) and I'm not sure that I would like to shave with SG2/R2 steel. I would prefer a purer/finer steel like shirogami. Congratulations though. BTW, this reminds me old video by Murray Carter shaving with a machete, a spoon, etc.

Thanks for watching! That was our thinking with the yanagiba, although surprisingly the R2 shaved more comfortably.
