Welcome to the Mothership! Today we are answering the age-old question of: Can you smoke just a brisket flat, and is it any good? Spoiler: yes you can, and its as good as you would expect. If this is your first time smoking anything, or are curious about trying just a smaller cut of brisket, I'll show you from start to finish how I smoke up JUST the brisket flat! I'm using a pellet smoker, but the methods should work on any type of smoker! Lets get started....
Ingredients:
Brisket Flat (mine was 3.5lbs)
Dried Minced Garlic or Garlic Powder
Coarse Black Pepper
Kosher Salt

Your timing is impeccable. I did a brined brisket flat last year, a gift from my wife. lol This year, she gifts me with a regular "brisket flat." I think she is telling me she wants me to practice on smaller briskets and then go for it. I couldn't even find out how much it weight(not on sticker), so I weighed it on the scales frozen and it was between 3.8 to 4lbs. I'll go by your recipe and graduate to larger scale briskets next year. lol

I’m glad they’re coming out good! Honestly I find full briskets easier in some ways that flats. Flats are easier to overcook and dry out, so if you’re nailing those when you move to a full packer you should be good to go!

That flat looked darn good. I did do a flat once many years ago on my electric smoker, it didn't turn out that great but I had no clue what I was doing back then either. Don't have the electric smoker anymore so that's a step in the right direction...LOL

When I first moved out I bought a tiny little smoker that could barely fit just a brisket flat. And I screwed up more than a few before figuring it out! Hopefully this video helps someone brand new!

I would put a major chomp on that flat Ben! I’ve never smoked just the flat before, but I’m also never seen just the point for sale by itself… I do like the point better as well. Let me tell you that flat smoke looks absolutely wonderful to me.
