Comments 1. x - 13 = √ (13 + √x) => RHS ≥ √13 => x ≥ 13 + √13 2. Without calculator, you have to show (27+53)/2 within domain ,(27-√53)/2 out of domain. furthermore you don't have to calculate (27 + √53)/2 = 17. ...

You just have to solve x= 13 + √x which leads to 27/2 +/- + √(53) /2, etc.
