First step, why not just take 2^24 as a factor straight away, saving the 24+1 step. And when evaluating 2^24, why go 2^12 squared rather than other choices? Getting to 2^12 took some time. Then, you have (4000+96)^2, at this level it seems fine to use the A^2 +2*A*B + B^2 approach rather than expanding to 4 terms (and getting a typo in one!) I found it unconvincing that doing it this way is better than standard multiplication, especially as you were expanding 96^2 and 4*96 without any obvious calculation. (I expected you to do 96^2 as (100-4)^2 which would at least be consistent!)

It's more obvious since successive powers of 2 double, so taking half leaves half.

Geezus!!! Factor out 2^24 and you have 1 left. 2^24 * 1 = 2^24!!

A number minus the half of that number is equal to the other half ;-)

I did this in seconds by inspection. I simply took out the common factor, 2^24, and multiplied it by the remaining factor ,(2^1 - 1), giving 2^24 X 1 = 2^24. SIMPLES - as the famous Russian meerkat, Alexandra Orlov, may say.

Ditto. That seemed simple enough, so I was not about to bother calculating the decimal value of (2^24) by hand, and just confirmed with an online exponent calculator.

You didn't "solve" anything. You just rearranged an expression from one (arbitrary) form to another (arbitrary) form. I guess the noteworthy point is that x - x/2 = x/2. I'm really not sure what the rest of the video was for.
