Sorry to have to say, but the people from indonesia was imported to South Africa as slaves, and their decendants became known as the Cape coloured community. The Malay slaves were muslims, and so they translated die Quran into Afrikaans. As for the white Afrikaans speakers, they viewed at is a dialect of dutch, and kept on using dutch as a written language up to the 20th century. Its only in the 1930's that they formalised the language and its written form.

I lot of this is just factually/historically wrong. She's propounding hearsay as if it's proven historical lingustics.

Careful! If you repeat something often enough, people will believe it. "Strip me of my culture, my language and my history, and I will become nothing".

The language took 200 years to reach the form that starts to be familiar to modern speakers. There was many influences that brought it to that point in the 1800s. When it started to be written down and thought in schools (Muslim schools), it stopped changing as much and became more standardized. Dutch has several dialects, and had many more in the past. The company men of the Dutch East India Trading company didn't speak modern Standard Dutch (plus not all of their employees were Dutch). The slaves Jan Van Riebeek brought in when the Khoisan didn't a want to work for them, came from all over. Indonesia, east africa, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, India, west africa, khoi etc. All of them also played their part in that 200 years.

Afrikaans came about when the Dutch came to colonise Cape Town finding the san people (coloured ppl) the san ppl n Khoi san (Xhosa n coloured) translated the Dutch to their own understanding n named it afrikaans to affirm it as an African language the white boere were descendants of the Dutch and learned afr from the San because the slaves were their property and that created the Afrikaner community.
