*My First Cameras that I've ever owned were the Panasonic G7 & G85 & these were amazing camera's of course it also taught me the Micro 4/3 and Lens. Thee only issue I had with them was the Stabilization as it wasn't that good on the G7 But the G85 being better as it Had IBIS and weather sealed but lens being a problem getting here in Alaska so I switch too Sony after about 2yrs as the Auto Focus was Pretty bad on both, but I'll always still have a small place in my Heart for them as they gave me the foot in the door for understanding Camera's*

Hi, since you already have an atomos 5, you should record externally the HDMI output of your GH4 in order to get a 10 bit signal out of it, the internal recording signal on the GH4 is only 8 bits sadly. There is an option out there in the menus to enable the 10 bits 4.2.2 signal from the HDMI. Having 10bit will allow you to have a lot more flexibility in color matching the image with the GH5 and S5II if needed, it's a great improve and for you cost nothing ^^

So typically for interviews particularly the wide shot on the gh4 or gh5 I try to do f4 or higher just because it gets more in focus. Sometimes I even shoot higher just to make sure both people are fully in focus. For most of my clients focus is more important than a super blurry background. Cheers

Cost effectiveness gh4 and gh5 are great. Here in aus a second hand gh4 is about 500, a gh6 is 2k and a g9ii is almost 3k. I want a gh5ii though as prices are coming down.

that monitor is the Portkey PT-6 5in monitor, it doesn;t have the best build quality but I have reallyed enjoyed using it and I'm pretty sure its under $200. It has waveforms, peaking, false color etc.

Gh5ii is on sale for $1k. I think we’re gonna take the leap. Dropped our fz1000 which has been a great camera but now auto focus is not working right. 😢

I own the GH5II, i highly recommend the GH5S or BGH1, bigger MFT sensor, dual ISO, Apple Prores RAW capability. And the cherry on top, SDI and longer battery life for the BGH1

Ironically, the bigger the camera and the lens, the more 'professional' the client thinks you are, and the more they will pay, which is, you know, its laughable. Canon 1D C is a monster but I noticed clients would pay me more if I used that then the GH4 even in a rig, but my back was not thankful.

I just used a GH4 for my video today. For the first time. Wanted a cheap camera, so I have it. $250 for me to get that. Quality is good for a 10 year old camera. It does C4K 24fps only at 4K. 200mbps is on 1080p only. I figured out how to get nice quality on it. As for using the GH4, you can definitely use it, it will still do 4K, with a massive crop though. I wouldn't use this on a long shoot though, no fans built in. The newer Panasonic cameras have the fans built into it now.

dude I got the GH4 in 2014 when it first came out and you had to wait to get it cause of all the orders. My producer friend was telling me how his cinematographers are selling their Alexa and buying the GH4. He even used the GH4 in some scenes along with the Alexa in a $3 million movie with known actors. I used the GH4 on a bunch of outdoor shoots in warm weather and it never overheats and the 10 year old original battery still records for 3 hours straight non stop. Sony had the heat issues. Panasonics never had them. I now also own the GH6 and S5ii and they can also shoot non-stop until battery dies or even when hooked up to external battery for 5 hours straight. I dont really use the GH4 for shoots unless I need a timelapse but I still used it on Name Brand client shoots in 2019 and they loved the results. I even used it on paid photo shoots. I know it's ridiculous but most people couldn't tell the difference. The specs dont mean anything if you dont understand light and color grading. The camera wont do any magic for you. A GH4 can look just like a 2024 camera if you dont know what you are doing. Your comment on long shoots and heat is ridiculous. Mine has 23,000 shutter count and performs like new.
