Win 7 was by far my favorite version from Microsoft. Then they forced my machine to update to Win 10, and I hated everything about it. In Win 7 I could control which updates I would or would not install, and the MS telemetry was minimal. With 10 and even more with 11, MS was collecting information on which app I was using and how often, etc. For me that was the last straw, so I reinstalled Windows 7, replaced Explorer with Firefox, replaced Office with LibreOffice, and disconnected my machine from all Internet traffic, so I can occasionally use some very specialized video editing apps such as object removal. Anyway, aside from my one Windows computer, my entire family now uses Linux. In particular, my favorite distro is Kubuntu KDE Plasma, which I consider even more superior to Windows 7, as it is Windows the way it should have been, plus it is free and without any spyware.

I'm still running Win7 on one my laptops, and can honestly say it's still my fave. Moreover, I actually need it for running some legacy hardware and software which don't work well on newer Windows. Just because and OS is "no longer supported" it doesn't mean that a tech savvy person can't use, to the contrary. With a good antivirus, Chrome or Brave browser, it's perfectly fine. imo Over 12 years of using it, never got a virus, malware, or ever got hacked.

Windows 7 sluggish? Woah there thats a lie, come on ,windows 7 uses about 35 to 38 processes to do anything modern you like while windows 10 is using more than 100 processes so i dont see in any world how a system that runs 62 less processes or more can be slower than 10,and windows 7 doesnt use the turbo feature that 10 has already if 7 had the turbo mode enabled not only would been crazy faster but already without the turbo it surpases 10. Windows 10 uses fast boot 7 doesnt ,if 7 had the same thing it would won,try and set windows 10 without fast startup,7 cant be slower cause by having less processes running on the system also the network load on your connection is lower disk usage cpu gpu everything when i installed 7 on my 10 pc,it was nasa level fast less than a second everything opens and loads,so no Windows 7 is the fastest modern Os,from windows operating systems.

Good video. I did a lot of testing and integrating updates offline via DISM many years ago. Getting windows 7 fully updated was tricky because there were certain updates that had to be installed first and in the right order before the rest of the updates. I mean to remember it was around 150 updates in total to get it fully up to date back then. In windows 8.1 it was even worse, there were around 270 updates, nowadays it is probably around 320 updates to get it fully up to date. Have done the same with Windows Vista with SP2 but don't remember how many updates it took to get it fully up to date. The purpose of this testing was to have windows as fully updated as possible after installation.

But rather , Its your Common sense in conjunction with your Internet habits , Encryption of your Username & passwords , keeping your Main applications Up-to-date and Maintaining Regular Backups of your PC system externally & it's Data that will Protect and Secure your PC Mostly from being Seriously compromised regardless if its Win 7 , 8, 10 or 11 , Mac, or a Linux machine. I've been using Win.7 for years until Now by Practicing the above with no issues and Still able to do Everything I need / want to do .i.e. Web browsing, Email, Gaming, Video streaming, Zoom calls, ....etc. The biggest issue for a Older or Outdated OS or PC is really Compatibility with Software and Hardware. However, I've personally have had no issues; I use Virtual Machines and other things Periodically if a software requires Win 10/11. Otherwise, Win.7 and Linux serve me well.

I didn't use my Windows 7 and 8.1 Pro licences, because I used those for the upgrades to Windows 10 and 11. I wouldn't dream of trying to surf the web with such an old OS, though. Some would say that I should just use virtual machines for this, and do away with the extra hardware. But I like having a separate machine for infrequently used stuff that can just sit there until I need it.

PC users with Win 10/11 in conjunction with Religious Windows Updates can and do fall Victim to the Aforementioned PC issues as well as seeing their " PCs not Start up or Slow down after Windows Updates ". This part is Not so much an issue for Win.7 or Linux users. Official builds of Windows 11 is bloatware, crapware and spyware infested. If you're going to use Windows 10 or Windows 11 use Ghost Spectre's version of it and opt for "install with Windows Defender" from the get-go. Every other option is for skilled/advanced users who know what they're doing and understands the risks of not having Windows Defender installed from the get-go. Ghost Spectre has a README file with every revision he puts out. And he basically states "installing Windows without Windows Defender is at your risk and you will not hold anyone liable, so unless your Mad Max, installion of Windows Defender is a must-have, end of story". Windows 7 still rocks and is a representation of Bruce Campbell's Ash J. Williams character when he states "Hail to the King 🤴 Baby!".

Truth be told I'm not entirely sure what would happen if the updates happen. Would it force Windows Ghost Spectre to revert back to baseline in terms of themes and usability, possibly so. The updates are on Pause until 2070. You may re-enable it and the process will do it's thing as any standard version of Windows 10 and Windows 11.

@collapsingruins I couldn't have said it any better than myself. So in essence, my strongest suggestion to you from IT Specialist to another IT Tech/Tech-savvy/Computer Enthusiasts is to not have any sort of Windows updates enabled. From painful experiences Windows Updates have this nasty tendency to bog down systems even more so with gaming rigs. Believe me you're not missing out on anything, when Ghost Spectre puts out updated revisions of his custom OS, he nicely integrates the major/hotfix patches for Windows and trim the fat and bloatware nonsense. Cheers 🍻 P.S. Windows Defender. Don't leave home without it.

Windows 7 and Windows XP will still work the operating system itself is not the problem. The problem is that you won't find updated software that supports it because most vendors have stopped support for Windows 7. So has Google Chrome and Firefox. As you showed us in the video. When you tried to install Google Chrome it installed a very old version that was the very last one to support Windows 7.And that version is probably years old. The same thing happened to me when I installed Firefox on Windows XP 3 years ago. Now it's the same thing on Windows 7 and 8. I didn't want to upgrade to Windows 10 and I tried to put it off for as long as I could. But in the end I had to get off of Windows 8 because I could no longer get any web browsers or software that supported Windows 7 and 8. So I installed Linux Mint. If you continue to use Windows 7 or any old version of Windows you won't find many (if any )web browsers or software that supports it. So you will have difficult doing basic things like viewing this site or any websites. And you need a good browser in order to get online to do anything. Even other things like video chat or Skype won't support Windows 7 and the old versions of Skype won't work. So the answer is no Windows 7 is not useable now because you cannot find many software that supports it. It's the same thing with Windows 8. I liked Windows 7 better than Windows 8 and Windows 10. Microsoft should never have changed Windows and made it like it is now. But they have and there is nothing we can do about it. Except go and find another OS and I have. I found Linux and I would never go back to Windows now.

@@Britec09 Thanks Brian. I have noticed that a lot of the people on here who have channels about Linux are Windows users like myself who have changed to Linux because of the way Windows is now with Windows 10 and 11. I think more people will be moving to Linux because Microsoft seem to be making changes to Windows all the time making it less and less user friendly. Windows 7 was one of the best versions of Windows and I don't know why they started Windows 8 and changed everything. In windows 8 Microsoft took out most of the features of Windows 7 and XP and replaced it with that Metro theme. Then it got worse with Windows 10 where you cannot even disable automatic updates. Now with Windows 11 it's even worse. You cannot even sign in to your own computer without a Microsoft account. So no wonder people are leaving Windows. I don't see staying on Windows 7 or 8 an option anymore because it's no longer supported. And if you cannot do anything on there there is no choice but to find another operating system. Which is Linux because there are many Linux distros out there. Linux Mint are set up for new users coming from Windows who are trying Linux for the first time. Also Zorin OS is but I use Linux Mint and now I have started using Debian and it's better than Windows 8 ever was.

The issues I have with Windows 11 is unironically just updating to it. I ran into more issues trying to prepare my computer for Windows 11 than I did any other operating system in the past. There are far more requirements to upgrade than just a standard windows 7 to 8 or a 8 to 8.1 or a 8.1 to 10 install, and I would actually be happy upgrading to Windows 11 if it didn't have all these complicated formatting steps to be able to upgrade without issue... Currently, launching secure boot on my Windows 10 PC causes my main drive that have Windows 10 on it to be inaccessible, making it impossible to upgrade, and now that I've done that, I can no longer boot back from my main drive even if I revert changes! Something about the windows boot file unable to be be found winload.exe or something even though it was there??? But my files and my entire Windows 10 operating system is stuck on that drive. However, I did have an older version of Windows 10 installed so I'm backing up everything I could so I can reinstall Windows 10 hopefully up to date, just to try formatting my drives again and hopefully this time... not running into issues with updating it. Personally, I think once I do, I'm either going to stay on Windows 10 for awhile while Windows 11 polishes up more or I'm going to upgrade as soon as I update Windows 10. I'm not entirely sure, but contrary to what people like about Windows 7, I actually love the clean glass look Windows 11 has, and I think there's a lot of potential in this operating system despite the issues it may have... and yeah, the forced automatic updates are not something I like, and the most you can do to prevent them is pause updates for a month or so... But seriously, I think it would benefit the user and Microsoft if they gave their users a choice in the matter. Because not all updates are properly tested like with what happened with a Windows 10 update not too long ago. You needed to have enough "System Reverse" space, up to 250mb's to even update your Windows 10 PC, otherwise it would fail... and that sucks.

Personally I don't think 7 is slow. If you have it on good hardware and its updated its pretty good. I recently got my old gaming machine back up and running with a 2600k and 980 ti using superemium which is a modern chrome fork built off the latest version and using a archived version of 7 that microsoft released in 2018 with most of the updates and surprising its still very usable to today and was a breeze. I certainly don't suggest anybody get the day one versions of 7, Much more of a hassle. The things I noticed that have come a long way is windows updates especially compared to Windows 11 and for whatever reason the shutdown times can take a minute and getting drivers for 7 especially all the right ones can take a bit. Its much easier to get 10 working on most machines even machines with that were built with 7 in mind providing they have an ssd than the reverse. I would also say security, defender and windows scaling. All these years I thought microsoft haven't touched scaling in windows since vista especially beyond 1080p but I was very wrong. Trying to use 7 on a 1440p screen was not ideal. It looked and performed great but the scaling of everything made it difficult to use and the design principles didn't help.

I think using WIndows 7 as a daily driver doesn't make sense in 2024. If the computer is that old anyway, it's better off being relegated to some other task (like a retro gaming machine, server etc). You also have to take into account the amount of physical memory, drives, peripherals etc that can be installed in it. Besides, a lot of old hardware will still run Win 10 perfectly fine (at least for the next 18 months). Personally though, I'd chuck a low resource Linux distro on it for those sorts of tasks. I still use old PCs for ripping DVDs, HTPCs, servers, gaming machines but I really couldn't go back to a dual core Gen 2 CPU, with HDDs and USB2.0 ports as a daily driver no matter what OS is on it. But ATM, there is a big difference between Win10 and 11. MS have stripped out a lot of features, restricting what you can put it on and what you can run on it almost to the point it's not very usable. We'll see what happens late next year when they stop support for WIn10. Hopefully there's a better Win12 version available by then (going by MS every second release is trash - ME, Vista, Win8/8.1, Win11). Until then, I'll keep using KDE Fedora and Win10
