Let's be real this was a perfect video for The US Office GIFS, but alas I recorded a ramble about what I think 'being introverted at the big 4' actually means.
It means that introverts & extroverts, while we don't start with the same 'strengths', can excel in any career in any industry. You just have to build and develop a sense of self-awareness of your own skills, what brings out those skills and honestly... getting comfortable with modern day networking (which isn't gross I promise!!).
Hope you enjoyed this one and introvert gang, leave your tips for a corporate job in the comments!!!

As an INFJ, this video is super reassuring especially when you’re typical sold the idea that only extroverts can thrive in consulting. Thank you for doing the Lord’s work, Dev 😩

Such a good video, I feel like every career needs a video like this!! I agree that introverts have such great qualities that can help work situations sooo much, i feel like I can read my patients so well! Definitely feel so drained after a day of small talk with so many people though 😩

Thank you for making this video. I'm an infj and wanted to work for the big 4 as a way to break out of my shell and grow. Public speaking is what I need to practice on.

INFJs unite!!! And same. We don’t have to completely change ourselves, but practice does make perfect. Good luck with public speaking!!

Good video. Starting a new job soon and I'm definitely more nervous about the social aspect of the job compared to the work itself lol. You don't come across as someone who would struggle with being an introvert so it's reassuring that other people do have these sorts of issues!

i get this a lot, but trust me the struggles are there! you get better with social skills with time, which seems obvious, but i never thought so. good luck with the new job!

Great video! Do you think its possible to study a course alongside working as an audit newbie at a big4 company? can working hours get tooo hectic, in your opinion?
@Devamsha

thank you! and to be honest, i think you would struggle for time - unless you're talking about the CA/CPA? if so, then your work should be aware of the course and definitely account for study time alongside work

one thing y do you not like small talk? How else can you get to know someone? you can't just walk up to strangers and start asking them personal questions. Also you said you might ask what type of food do you like, isn't that small talk? otherwise good video.

Small talk has a tendency to stay small. As a result, you never get to know each other. You never move on to the deeper, intellectual conversation. "How was your weekend?" "Good". " How was your weekend"? "Good." And that's it. They go their separate ways. They still don't know each other. This could go on for years. Years of the same old, boring, generic small talk. Introverts are genetically wired to dive deep.When we're interested in getting to know people, We wanna go straight for the meat and potatoes, unlike extroverts who believe small talk is the only way for people to get to know each other. In the mind of the introvert, if you're making small talk, you're not saying anything. It's pointless babble. If you hit on the right topic, the introvert will talk your ears off. "What plans do you have for the weekend?" Why keep on asking me that. Ask me who am I voting for. Biden or Trump. Let's have a real conversation. "Cold outside." Duh, I know it's cold outside. I was just out there. Say something about inflation. Say something about poetry, philosophy, meditation, something that can lead to a real interesting conversation.

@@nyc4life448 doubt that. If it stays there then neither person has a real interest in each other, and you need to know that. Stop I am an introvert and I like small talk, so there goes that theory. Most people weather introverted or not do not want to give their real opinions to strangers. If the small talk feel comfortable then it can go further.

@@Jansheff2010 Right, if neither one has an interest in each other, then the small small talk is a waste. Making small talk just to have something to say makes no sense. I had a co worker ask me how was my weekend. Instead of saying good or okay, I decided to be honest and tell her a had a terrible weekend. As I'm explaining what really happened, she didn't wanna hear it. She kept on walking away fast. For the most part, small talk is people talking just to be talking. If you really are an introvert and you like small talk, you're a rare one. I had a customer say to me "you never make small like the other customers." The way I see it, here's a 20, give me my tea, my cake, $15, and that's that. Making small talk for what. Customer: we came here from San Diego. Over there is my mother and my sister. We leave Sunday night. Cashier: oh Customer: we're staying in the Marriott hotel around the corner Cashier: oh, okay. When she leaves that cafe, their not gonna see each other again. So why is it necessary to give the cashier all that information. This is another reason why introverts can't stand small talk.

@@nyc4life448 small talk is especially tailored for the situation where you will not see the person again or the person you don't really vibe with. It's just recognizing other peoples humanity and acknowledging their presence. Where did you hear that introverts don't like small talk? I think it 's just you guys and I am absolutely an introvert. Introverts don't like to talk a lot. We are all social creatures meaning we need acknowledgement from each other even in the form of small talk, it makes people feel connected. Maybe you are anti-social but you think you're introverts. You don't seem to understand what an introvert is. The both of you are probably under 30. Now I see y young people are soo rude. Don't blame you're rudeness on introversion.

@@nyc4life448 the reason you're co-worker didn't want to hear the long story about your bad weekend is because she either doesn't know you that well or she doesn't want to hear bad news. She maybe had a bad weekend herself. Why dump your bad weekend on her. Unless she is a friend most people will not be happy to hear that story, that is more of an argument for small talk not against it.
