Some people are just miserable and try to bring everyone down to their level. Your videos are my happy place. There’s nothing I love more than a weekend morning curled up on the couch with a blanket and a cup of tea, and watching a next level homestead/gardening video. Thank you being such a positive presence in all of our lives. You have so many people who appreciate you, we’re just unfortunately not as loud as the negative ones.

This just happened to my daughter and her husband at their farm. Their rooster began attacking her then began on him. They have a 2 YO that could no longer play outside because of that bird. You had to carry a large stick as defense and had to keep your head on a swivel. They’re very quick so you’d have no chance to run. They were advised by other friends who raise many many chickens on their farms to harvest the rooster as they didn’t want his genes in their flock. That’s what they did. He was quite beautiful but he was huge & aggressive. My daughter likes to say she makes a mean chicken soup! 😉😉

I have 3 roosters not by choice but by bad sexing. We have hand raised them since they were a couple days old… so far they all get along until my 3 year old grand daughter came to the ranch and one of the roosters started attacking her. It’s the only time I’ve ever felt like I could possibly slaughter one of our animals. I worked with him and by the end of the day he complete ignored my grand daughter although I kept my head on a swivel watching him!

I'm so sorry for the hate that comes your way and it just goes to show how stupid it is. I can't wrap my head around people finding cruelty to be an enjoyable life goal or entertaining passtime. I'm glad you aren't as bothered by it now. Thank you for continuing on in an atmosphere where any social interaction attracts unpleasant people saying and doing unpleasant things. It's become fashionable and a point of pride in some circles, unfortunately. Thank you for not abandoning us to save yourself, haha!

My roosters were hatched by pigeons and raised by a mother pigeon, I spent a ton of time with them as they grew up. The two of them live together and get along fine. Just have to spend time with them. I hold them down until they're compliant if they do anything mean, and that's all it takes. I like them as much as dogs honestly.

On the flip side, I appreciate people like you who set out to teach other homesteaders - both current and future. I'm not a homesteader yet,but I eventually hope to be, and I want you to know that channels such as yours are so very valuable to those of us who subscribe to learn rather than criticize! BTW. it looks like you handled the rooster quite well! If you try it several more times and he doesn't change, at least you'll know you tried and that he can be re-homed!

I have done stucco on a house with my husband, and it was very easy. Once you start, it will go fast. You have done the hardest work with the mesh. If you can, let your family help. As for the rooster, find him a home or have him as a meal. They can hurt people very badly.

As a young teen I was one of those "try to be what everyone else wants" people. THEN i made the decision to please only myself and my family. It was the turning point. From then on, I had loads of friends and a very fulfilling life, mainly because I didn't care if someone didn't like me because they didn't matter to me. Be yourself and know that those who hate are worthless. I will be 83 in a few weeks and I have never regretted just being me.

I totally agree that using your own diy skills instead of throwing money at hired help is a great decision! The biggest issue with that is the necessity of having ‘patience’. On huge projects like you are tackling all at the same time, you have to be OK with letting them happen as you realistically can get to them (physically and financially). So far your visions have come along spectacularly!👏🏻🥰

Dear Precious Lady; when I read your comment, I just had to write to you. You mentioned that you were trying to find a purpose in your life. I only wanted to say this: "You are a mother. You are a wife. Here, I have mentioned but two of the souls you have unmistakbly touched and influenced in your life, not to mention the thousands whose lives you have touched without even realizing it. Your gift- is LOVE. You love nature and life, or you would not be interested in gardening at all. Your purpose in life? "To share the love that God gifted you with upon the moment of your creation." Everything else is just "icing on the cake."

I grew up on a chicken farm in the 50's and 60's. My dad raised hens for a local hatchery so the flock had plenty of roosters. When roosters attacked me I would kick them in the breast area hard enough to move them back several feet. Most of the time they would attack again. I would kick them again. Never really injured any of them. Just be careful if they fly toward your face. That's really the only vulnerable place on your body. As far as hate goes, I'm a 75 year old former marine in remission from throat cancer. Hate can't do me any harm. Love your videos. You are a fantastic teacher.

I've been watching your channels for a few years back when I was starting off as a new gardener. I've learned a lot from yours and other channels over the years. I'm at the point where I've figured out how to grow my tomatoes and herbs. If a next level gardening video comes out, I researched Rosemary 3 years ago so for me, no rush to watch but I want to support your content so I'll watch it at some point. Next level Homestead however, If i see a new video pop up I'm watching it ASAP. People come to your videos and then stay because of you, the host. the content becomes almost secondary. As a new (ish) gardener in his early 40's. You do you man and your channel will keep succeeding. Side note, I also had that same chin hair situation in my younger days. You help me get through the ups and downs of gardening. I’ve learn so much from you in just a year. Still a newbie, but continue to fight the fight. If it works with the rooster great , if not he gets another home. I’ve been chased by roosters before and the can do some damage if your not careful. The rooster thing was hilarious - is he responsible for all the peck marks on your shoes? The stucco project looks like a good start, I hope you're feeling $3500 worth of joy and that the rest of it goes well. Watching you push ahead on your walls along with other KZbinrs similar stuff is an inspiration for your viewers who also want to try things but are having difficulty getting started. Last summer I nudged my 67-year-old self, a little at a time, to build a patio paver walkway along one side of my garden pond. It was a thing on the list for a long while and a spot that needed to be geezer-proofed big time. It is finally 95% done, there's still some concrete finishing touches to be done but it looks nice and I'm glad I did it myself. The project this summer will be to move some rocks and boulders to create a raised bed.

Your mortaring of the coop looks perfectly fine. The first scratch coat only needs to be flat, not perfect or textured. You can spend time ‘prettying’ up the finish coat once your wood trims are installed, and you are dealing with smaller areas at a time. Another ‘ I did it myself’ success👍🏻👏🏻

Brian, I don't even remember what video I watched first of yours, all I know is that if ever I asked a question of how to plant seeds or transplants or whatever in the garden, I went directly to your channel and I've been subscribed for a long time, I'm a 27 year old Englishman living in France so I know the chance of us sitting down and having a glass of wine together is next to nothing, but watching your videos and seeing your life pan out inspires me to be a better man, gardener and hopefully in the future a homesteader, carry on being you have a cup of tea on me :)

Brian, I have been watching you for a long time. I enjoy all that you do. You are learning every day with the experience you have . I really appreciate what you show us and taking chances. You learn and accomplish and it makes you happy. And it helps us to create our own by watching you. Keep up the great videos. Don’t worry what other people say. At least you are happy.

I think the idea of doing your own stucco for the coop is a good idea. It’s a great learning experience, and isn’t the most important thing to have perfect, unlike if it was your house

Your comments on haters really struck a chord with me as i have been that way all my life. I do not venture out of my home that often unless for work and to go get groceries! I go and then get home as quick as possible. Something you said gave me an "ah ha" moment and i think i will be able to enjoy more of life now! Thanks for that!

You are right about life lessons the general public never learns, however; as a former public school high school teacher I can tell you that teachers get the "feedback" (politely stated as we know it can be nasty, mean natured, cruel, unwarranted) you are talking about. We teachers learn to grow with/from the punches too.

I understand why you want to bring that guy down a couple notches. He's a big boy! I have heard, however, that you are supposed to do this in their space AND in front of their ladies. You are correct the only thing hurt is his pride. :D Maybe if you try that he'd get the message quicker and you can go on enjoying that beautiful guy and the protection he offers his girls when you are not around the coop. As for the 'haters', I am so glad you didn't stop your channel. Some people are just so miserable, they can't stand not trying to bring others down to their lower level. Your place is awesome and will be even more so when your projects are finished. If there is even such a thing. LOL

I had a friend who got some harsh words that hurt a lot. Another friend gave her some good advise, "what would you do if someone put a hot coal in your hand? answer, drop it fast. That is what you do with senseless comments. I am glad that you put it aside, your Channel is awesome, I have purchased a greenhouse and am ready to start seeds to go in it. You and your channel had a great part in helping me get started on this journey. Thanks a lot.

You did good. From what I'm told, you have to hold him down to the dirt for at least a minute or two and then follow up with holding him and petting him for a few minutes so he knows you're also not going to harm him. I've been watching these videos and asking for advice and info for my monsterous rooster too...unfortunately I have not gotten up the nerve to try it yet😭

I made the mistake of hiring someone who insisted to be paid by the hour to do crown molding, even though he was known for his great work himself, he had the tendency of taking too many breaks and being on the phone planning out his next job, well needless to say that’s an issue when paying by the hour. Then he brought 3 other ppl who spoke no English and he sat back and let them do the painting, which btw looked good but later found paint drops on top of furniture, floor and drapery. So my lesson is if I can’t do it myself, it doesn’t get done. 😅 Ppl don’t have work ethic anymore. I recommend screening very thoroughly for contractors. Make sure there’s a legal contract too. Verify everything.

Brain - you've got this! The wall and the stucco is something you can do. Let your artist shine. You will look back and be able to see your accomplishments with pride. No gym membership needed, you have a walls to build. Let the coop be your big canvas to enjoy. Yes it will take time, but it will be time well spent. Good luck with the rooster, he is a looker. Love the video. You are right. You can please everyone and it's a waist of your energies to even try. Life is short. Live it your way. Best

Great that you gave rooster training a try...or two, or three. It's more than we would have done. The daughter's rooster is a sweetheart. Luck of the draw? She would be very jealous of your coop. Also, those peeps giving you grief probably live in an apartment in a big city. No clue about growing anything other than opinions. Love your videos! Thanks for all you do.

😃Great job Brian and so brave to tame your rooster. I wouldn't want you to give him away. By the way after you do that thing with the rooster, before you take him back is it a good idea to give him a treat? Just wondering. Also, thank you for sharing about the haters, I've just started my KZbin channel and I haven't encountered anything yet. Not many comments yet which is bad. Need to build my community and if I have haters, so be it.I always try to keep positivity in my life or else any other energy will take a toll on me. Love watching what you're doing on your Homestead and all the hard work. My husband like to do all the building and gardening work maintenance and rarely hire help, except for the rain gutters (LOL) I didn't want him climbing up high. Keep on trucking and don't forget time for yourself. 🌈Aloha

Oh wow.. that's unfortunate, that there are people doing that to you. I love your great gardening advice. I find you very reasonable in your methods, advice, how u realistically deal with pest problems. I grew up on a small farm in the 1970s. When you have chickens, things want to eat them. You sometimes have to do things that you have no choice with golfers, weasels. I am glad you showed what you are trying. 👍 👍 from me. On our farm, a rooster like that became dinner real fast. That was real life. A Canadian fan.
