CAN YOU TELL ASIANS APART ?!?! - YORK UNIVERSITY
I put people at York University to the ultimate test of if they are able to tell Asians apart! This was not meant to be racist at all, but just a fun video to make because I always play this guessing game by myself when I see other Asian people!!!
Thank you for everyone that was interviewed and thank you to my
beautiful models!!
Huge shoutout goes to Joel Kim for filming this!! He has worked with a lot of big time KZbin people such as David Choi, Arden Cho, and much much more!!

I think people forget that there are MIXED asians too a lot , especially in southeast asia. Many southeast asians are mixed with chinese. My fam members are from thailand but several of them are mixed with chinese ,lao and vietnamese. mainly with chinese tho...which is the case for most thais .if mixed. Fact is...u cant always consider everyone as some FULL ethnicity, like 100% korean etc. My friends daughter is half Thai/korean ...soooo...they could be anything

I'm fair (not pale, but I'm very pinkish), I have a pretty pointy nose, my hair is lighter brown than typical Filipino brown and sometimes it looks gold or red, but if you compare it to Caucasian brown than it's darker, and my eyes are gray brown so under certain lights, it looks brown and other times it looks dark gray. No tea no shade. Studying in the Philippines for a while as a Korean made me realize that Filipinos are mostly mixed. There are legit Korean looking Filipinos, legit Chinese looking Filipinos etc. it was like I was in all of Asia in one place. A one stop place to see a lot of Asian ethnicities. Not to mention the beautiful beaches and the kindest people I've EVER met. That's coming from a girl who's also been to china, Thailand, Japan, the US and of course Korea. I even had met a Filipino boyfriend that totally looked like a Korean (no double eyelids and spoke American English,pale skin and fashionable) just sharing though.
@minim6981

thats because Filipinos are mixed. According to National Geographic, the average Filipino is: 53% Southeast Asian/Oceanian, 36% East Asian (Chinese mixture mostly), 5% Southern European (from Spain), 3% South Asian (ancient Indian mixture), and 2% Native American (from Latin America) genographic.nationalgeographic.com/reference-populations-next-gen/

Malay has darker skin tone and has a thik look same as with Filipinos and has double eyelids. Thai do also have double eyelids but they're more a bit lighter and has almost the same round eyes as the Malay. Korean has that distinct No eyelids look and are very skinny, tall, light skinned, with a fluffy full small faces. Japanese always that distorted teeth that looks nice on them and they have that more kinky eyes stretching up. Chinese do also have thick skin but they have the most beautiful straight hair with a Filipino like eyes but is more smaller eyes. To be honest my mom thinks all Korean look the same

I agree. All Asians look different but trying to guess whether they're from China or Korea, or Japan etc. is not possible for me. It's the same as if I tried to guess a white person's ethnicity. I don't look at white people and think, "oh, you're dutch!" Freak, I've got no idea where you're from. Haha. I currently live in S. Korea and it hasn't helped me distinguish :P To be honest I think it's mostly a myth but some people swear they can tell different ethnicities apart so who knows.

In proper geographic terms, those Islamic countries are still within the Eurasian continental plate, which makes those countries be in "West to Central Asia"

Horny Aleks You are confusing the terms "race", "ethnicity", and "nationality". "Race" is the physical characteristics of a person (skin colour, eye colour, hair colour). "Ethnicity" refers to the cultural aspects of the person such as their ancestry. "Nationality" is the person's relationship with their political state/country they were born or live in. You can have multiple ethnicity and nationality , such as Egyptian Italian or Japanese American but only one race (even if mixed race -- that's still a separate category within race). Btw, Arabs aren't only Muslims (but predominantly more of them are). There are also Christian Arabs. Just like how not every American is necessarily a Christian or Jewish.

For me, I feel like it comes down to styling. Asian diaspora living in other countries are hard to identify because they style themselves according to whatever standards exist in their communities but people who actually live in their country of origin style themselves according to that cultures standards. There are some physical traits that may or may not reflect their ethnicity but it's not fool proof. Styling is much easier to identify.

If you take the entire population of each race there are people who will look alike. In terms of nationality you simply can’t go to any race and just know were their from, but sometimes you do. Not just us Asians. I didn’t know one of the 3 of my hispanic friends were Dominican while another was Mexican but guess what I could tell them apart. The same way they didn’t know i was korean and till my Asian friend immediately knew I was and pointed it out. No one can tell anyone apart regardless of the race if there will always be a select few who look and don’t look alike.

Filipino's look similar with Malaysians and Indonesians since we do share the same ancestry (its unclear who came from where. Whether the Malay people went from south then north to the Philippine or from north to south) and our nations has been interacting before Europeans colonized that part of Southeast Asia. We also traded with the Chinese a lot during pre-colonial times and there were Chinese merchants who chose to migrate in Southeast Asia. I am mistaken for Chinese even though I did not inherit the white skin like my cousins (I have olive skin) but I did inherit my great grandmother's eyes who happens to be 1/4 Chinese.

I also wonder why all people think every asian has to be ONE full ethnicity. Like 100% korean ,100% japanese and so on.... ? There are MANY MIXED ASIANS. Especially in southeast asia. My friends daughter is half korean half thai. Most people who are mixed in thailand are mixed with chinese (since thailand also has the most chinese population OUTside of china/taiwan). Several fams i know have thai/japanese mixed kids, i know people with half pakistani/thai , half indian/thai mixed too (southeast asian & indian/pakistani is SOUTH asian). And i also know some thai-vietnamese, thai-mongolian, other thai-korean and thai-malaysian mixed people.... so
