I had never considered dying my own yarn before, but this video is very inspiring. I think I'll give it a try!

That’s cool! I like both ways but I think I’d have more fun with dyeing the yarn!

I think I preferred that way too! If I were tie dying a larger crochet project, then I might change my mind. But a small project vs the yarn skein, I think the yarn skein has more possibilities. Thanks for watching!

I tend to stick to solid yarns so I can control where colors change, but oh my god this is giving me amazing vibes. I’ve already texted my tye dye obsessed friend haha

It was so fun to play around with! I've only done a little with tie dye, but I bet there's a lot of techniques and methods that would give some amazing results on the yarn.

It's weird because I watched another video where this woman dyed her cotton yarn on top of the stove and at the end of the entire process, all of the dye washed off. Maybe she overboiled the yarn? I don't know. It was cotton yarn.
@CraftersAutonomous3 жыл бұрын
@@luwandaartrelle4250 That's so crazy! I wonder if it was the wrong kind of dye for cotton yarn? When I was planning this video, I came across several different types of dye that worked for only certain fiber content.

Before you take the hank off the back of the chair, you can -loosely- put a few reusable cable ties on to “separate” the hank. Then, when it comes time to wind the hank up, put it hank back on the back of the chair. I do this all the time, and it works a great!

Ahh, this is so smart! When I was winding it into a ball, I was wishing I had kept the loops separated. Thanks for the idea!

Thank you so much! This seems like a cheaper way to dye yarn. I might use rit dye instead, but this seems cool! Can you use Acrylic or just cotton and wool?

So all my research on tie dye indicated that natural fibers will due best while synthetic (think polyester, acrylic, etc) won't take the dye as well. Since I had leftover dye from this project, I also dyed some random white tshirts. They were part cotton part poly, and the dye was a lot less vibrant on those shirts.
