This is called chain plying or Navajo plying when you spin a yarn from fibre. Instead of having 3 spools of yarn (all with slightly different lengths) you only need one and won't have any spools with leftover bits.

I make my own stitch markers or stitch savers. Those come in super handy when a project needs to go into time out. I put a letter bead on the marker. I went to a local farmer's market, there was a gentleman there with a crochet stand. He put skeins of yarn into clean 2 liter bottles, he cut the bottoms of the bottles put the skein in, taped up the bottom ran the working yarn through the bottle opening.

I cannot express to you the amount of freaking out and fan-girling I am experiencing over the hack to make worsted weight yarn bulky. 😂😂😂 I want so badly to buy bigger yarn because all I have is worsted weight, but I have so much untouched yarn that needs to be used before I can justify a purchase lol. Now I can make the projects I’ve been dying to make and it’s SO EASY!! Thank you so much for sharing, this is exactly the kind of hack I needed!! 😍✨

Wish I would have known about the “bulky” hack when I made a Snoopy Christmas wall hanging for my son. I worked with only 2 strands, but two balls of yarn. Could you please make a video with a hack for two strands?
@CraftersAutonomous Жыл бұрын
So there's not really an equivalent version of the 3ply/3strand hack to make it only 2 ply/2 strand. However, when I want to double up on the same type of yarn, I first use my yarn winder to make the yarn into a cake. Then, I can easily work from the center strand and the outer strand of the cake at the same time to double up. It's a lot less tangly than working with two skeins, but do note it's a pain to unravel!

I enjoy making blankets, anything wider than 2 ft. here is my savior, after I get almost a foot high, I accordion fold the blanket about 3-5 inches wide, thicker the yarn, wider the fold, then tie the bundle, I used scrap yarn, go around 2 times and tie, so now you have a bundle on your lap, the working edge opens like a fan, and as you work your Blanket, keep tying as it gets longer, I like doing this as that my cat helps me, she can not lay on it, it stays clean, can travel with it, Bags up much easier. I enjoy your shows.

Question With the purple and green round things Why wouldn't you make it a spiral and close it with a ss ? I'm just wondering. If its for a coaster that's what I do then add an edge no seam. That way it doesn't matter which stitch you use. Just say" in I've also been crocheting since 69" Liked your Idea of tripling the yarn!!! Crochet for the Ages!!!!
@CraftersAutonomous Жыл бұрын
It's simply a personal preference kinda thing! Whether I spiral or join my rounds depends on what I'm working on. The two main scenarios where I join each round verses spiraling are 1. I want an easier time counting stitches and don't want to use a stitch marker (so basically when I want to be lazy hahaha) and 2. Sometimes my spiraled projects seem to get a bit of an uneven bump where I join the round. While there are ways to minimize it, sometimes I just prefer the look of the finished round where I join each round versus spiraling. But again, these are all just personal preferences, and I'm all for everyone going with the method they like best! Also, that is absolute goals you've been crocheting for over 50 years!!! I hope I can say the same one day!

I love all these tips except the one where you missed a stich. It's a clever tip but I would never be able to live with myself if I just patched it up, even tho it would save me time and energy having to undo my work. Kudos to you tho for finding a new idea for fixing your work, it's ingenious, it's just not something my horrible perfectionist nature would allow me to actually do, and then live peacefully with myself afterwards. The tip I especially love, is the one where you used a loop in the wool to change a single thickness of yarn into a thicker one. What a clever idea! I am new to your channel but I think I'm utterly hooked, pun intended, on your videos. Thank you for posting these tips and tricks, they are very helpful. God bless you

Thanks for sharing your perspective! And I totally get about not being able to live with the knowledge there's an error. I tend to be a perfectionist myself, but crafting and creative things are the one area I'm pretty good at letting go of my need for perfection. Of course, I likely wouldn't use the filling in hack if it were for a commissioned project. But I've found it allows me to actually finish projects versus putting them in a permanent time out because I don't want to unravel 😂 So glad to have you here and thanks for watching! God bless.

I just tonight 9/18/2023 found your channel. Thank you! Your hack #1 I already use sometimes. Hack #2 was amazing. Never again will turn chain bump stick out. I can see where hack #3 could be useful especially if you need to make a bag handle or a basket. Hack #4 will certainly take practice, but it is interesting. I use the stacked sc as an alternative to th ch 3 for dc or ch 4 for the tr. I think I’ll continue to ch 1 for the single crochet stitch because hack 2 takes care of the straight edges and keeps the height and form of the stitch uniform. I too use the stacked sc (ssc) in the round. I think it makes for as perfect a look as we can get in crochet. Thank you so much. I learned a lot. Keep it up.
@CraftersAutonomous Жыл бұрын
So glad you enjoyed these hacks! And I'm right there with you as far as turning chains. Stacking the single crochets is AWESOME for taller stitches, and hack #2 is a great way to handle the turning chain with sc. Anything to make turning chains look nicer is a win in my book!
