#Interceptor650 #RoyalEnfield #ArtofMotorcycle
A few days ago, I was invited to the launch event of the new Royal Enfield Twins - the Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor 650. I had the chance to ride the bikes for a few hours and thought I'd make this video sharing my first impressions of these much-awaited motorcycle. This video focuses on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 because that's the bike that I personally prefer and have been more interested in. This is not a review video, it's just the first reactions of a chap who loves to tour on motorcycles. Hope you guys like it.

Thanks for the great video! Ironically, the Royal Enfield 650 Interceptor & Continental GT motorcycles are just now being introduced into California. I attended the Royal Enfield introduction of these bikes this past weekend, at a local dealer in San Jose, CA. & was able to finally ride them. What a wonderful bike to ride: smooth running with plenty of power, light weight & well handling, with a very pleasant ride. I was also very impressed with the smooth shifting transmission & the nice selection of gear ratios for a variety of riding conditions. Here in California, where everyone seems to be riding a huge 1800cc Harley Davidson or equilivant, the RE Interceptor is a real nice change of pace & a real pleasure to ride. It's kinda like the best of classic British motorcycling of the mid '60s, but without all the headaches, leaking oil, & with better brakes & field injection. A real smart choice for fun riding through the mountains or down the coast. Thanks again for the great video.

Thank you TFT for explaining it and also about the plans of RE for same. Love to see Junaid Bhai (legend of motorcycles) and TFT ( the legend of moto traveling) together in this vlog.

Another impressive video! Even a video about your impressions of a motorcycle is cinematic. If you ever decide to give up KZbin, you have a career waiting as a filmmaker. It's nice to see RE build bikes with ABS and fuel injection. It makes such a difference in rideability and safety. With so many of your travels starting out at sea level and winding up through towering altitudes, the fuel injection will make the bike so much more responsive in the mountains. For years I was a big fan of carburetors thinking that fuel injection would have too many technical issues. Then I bought a fuel injected bike. I'll NEVER own another carbureted bike again. Throttle response is amazing. Cold starts are so easy. Even fuel mileage is better. The Interceptor is a lovely bike, but it's hard to say whether the Interceptor is the right bike for your type of riding. Too bad the Himalayan doesn't have a big brother with a twin cylinder, fuel injected engine. That would be ideal for long distance touring and adventure riding. As always, keep up the amazing videos! No one does it better.

Until the 1970s a 650 twin would have been considered a touring motorcycle. Add knobbly tyres and a different sprocket for rough going. The requirement of a fairing like a barn door, Hi-Fi, enough storage to live in, and the weight of a car are all recent novelties and distractions from the business of motorcycle touring. The Interceptor is my idea of a touring bike.

First of all can I say thank-you for a video devoid of facts and figures and full of views of the Indian countryside and the madness and mayhem of the Indian public highway. And to the question 'Can the Royal Enfield Interceptor tour?' Well I don't see why not after all, there are people riding around the world on a 125! It's more a question of suitability and reliability? Royal Enfield make quite a few bits and pieces to ease your ride down the road, all those in the video I would fit plus one that was not mentioned, fork gaiters, would any one throw mud rocks dust and sand to their front forks? And yet of people ride down the road with naked fork sliders. There a couple of things I feel RE as soon as possible first the wheels, they should be tubeless. Yes I know you have puncture wala in India but in Europe they are few and very far between as are motorcycle repair shops, it's far easier to repair a tubless tyre rather than the palava of repairing an inner tube! The Interceptor should have a much larger petrol tank. The Interceptor can return some remarkable consumption figures ( one chap is claiming 32 kpl ) But when you're touring you can never have too much petrol in your tank. A small tank is just a nuisance if, like me you go into some remote places from time to time. As for reliability well it is early days yet, I've seen one or two problems on the Indian blogosphere. The fuel gauge can be erratic, I saw one regarding electrical problems after washing the bike another complained of condensation in the instruments and a couple of bikes with rust problems. As for the engine I would be surprised if there were any problems there, well made, low stressed and very smooth, it's built like a gun! If you have problems restarting the bike on a long hot journey, try some iridium spark plugs, they can be expensive but they do last much longer. The only other problem I can see is that someone some where right now will be thinking on how to make the RE 650 bigger or faster and turn it into a sows ear. Looking forward to your next blog..............

I love watching your travel blogs which show some of the realities of motorcycle touring on India. The question is would you replace your Enfield 500 with the Interceptor and continue to go to those far flung parts of the continent? When loading luggage to the saddle of my bike I place a neoprene sheet on the seat it needn't be neoprene, just something that will not slide around when on the seat as you press down on it. Perhaps an old inner tube cut to shape might do the trick? Tie down your luggage compressing the seat a little and you will find your load is much more stable and less likely to become loose as you ride along ;-)

I really enjoyed the power of the interceptor, but realistically, I would prefer a bike that is likely to be more comfortable on bad roads. The interceptor is definitely an interesting option for highway cruising, but most of my favourite adventures begin where the road ends. The tip about the sheet of rubber is a good idea. Thanks for sharing!

I really like this bike (gt650) but what concerns me is it's touring capabilities and whether it can handle small time offroading? Will it be comfortable for long rides? Recently I saw a video where the interceptor fails at high altitude, have you heard anything else like that? Now seeing the Dominor 2019 I am having second thoughts. I consider touring a big criteria and Dominor being more technically advanced and being a good tourer, I am confused. Please help me out here bro.

Thanks, Kelvin. I am not really sure man. I wish I was 6.3. Hahaha. Do take it for a spin whenever you can and decide for yourself. Then leave a comment here sharing your experience.

Hey buddy, where are you mounting the gopro for the low reverse angle? Do you use a gimbal for the gopro? Good stable footage you got.

not sure if you've answered this else where - but why did you not buy this? I know you have your reasons for Xpulse but why not interceptor?

Till now, not much negative reviews about Interceptor. Only small Complaint will be the small backrest. And maybe the higher footrest for the pillion

From a touring perspective don't you think the absence of tubeless tyres is a practical problem as it won't be easy for the roadside tyre repair shop to uninstall & reinstall the rear tyre properly? Please do let me know your thoughts on this as I am in love with the Interceptor ever since I had a test ride last sunday & want to book one .

While tubeless tyres are definitely easier to fix a puncture on, the spoked wheels + tube combination is something that's used on a lot of long-distance motorcycles. It's definitely more difficult to fix a puncture, but it's not impossible or reason enough to write-off a machine. You win some, you lose some :)
