This is a really well made product. It allows you to use any standard AC sump pump of your choosing. Typically AC sumps are more powerful so this is good. Its also easy to install. On the flip side it does lack some features of a packaged DC power back up pumps including things like float status, automatic pump testing, battery voltage levels, wifi remote monitoring, and more. I considered buying this for my back up pump, but went to a really good DC back up pump system for less money. Still worth considering!

Pump sentry=$700, battery about $100+, I see sump pump systems at Home Depot for way less. Other than saving on plumber, are there other reasons to go with pump sentry vs a system?

There are always options, we find that the pump sentry is the most reliable for the situation we see in east TN specially if there is a high propensity for the crawlspace or basement to take on water.

Paul Morgan . I don't have a pump sentry... *but* I did buy an inverter and a trickle charger with some marine batteries.. I have two identical pumps.. one mounted 1.5 inches higher (sitting on a brick) than the main pump...main pump has A/C power from the wall, 2nd pump is plugged into the inverter which is connected to the battery bank... if I lose power or the main pump dies, pump 2 takes over....simple as that... when A/C power comes back on...pump one takes over again and the battery bank gets recharged from trickle charger.. easy peasy.

I have a Flotec FP0S2400A, 1/3 hp. It's old but works well as we don't get very much water; not enough for it to pump. However, the past two New England winters have been more rainy than snowy. I'm concerned that one day we'll have a storm and the power goes out. would the 822 work with this. Thanks.

Agree, will any standard marine deep cycle Group 27 work or something else is better?

Group 31 is much better and only $10.00 more

Notes for future sump pump backup enthusiasts: 1) Deep cycle (or LiFePO4) 2) Something you can lift and support in the desired location. A schedule 31 battery is about 60 lbs. An 8D battery is about 130 lbs. You can't just sit that on a shelf held up by some drywall anchors. :)

I wish I knew exactly, they don't say other than "Multiple batteries in parallel increase pumping time", no specifics are given by them and I am not sure if any battery backup system gives specifics...sorry I can't answer your question.
