@sciencescripture3 жыл бұрын
A thief can grab your property or your kid with an airtag in their backpack, then mark their current location as home or work and they will then get a notification that your airtag is covertly tracking them in your stolen property. They would cause it to ‘sound off’ then they find it and toss the tag, voila. That will teach you for trying to be a stalker. Basically, Apple has decided to lump all their customers into the “creeper category” when actually they just want to secure their property or loved ones. If your pet gets out and it DOESN’T have an AirTag attached, you aren’t going to get a position report. If it gets out and it DOES have an AirTag attached, you have a reasonable chance of getting a position report if it wanders by someone with an iPhone. Granted, there is no guarantee, and it’s not as good as a GPS/cellular collar, but it’s better than nothing. I see no downside to attaching an AirTag to a pet and at least the potential for recovering your pet. So the admonition “Don’t put an AirTag on a pet” is wrong. The proper warning is “Don’t rely on an AirTag to track a pet or a child.”

So, you're advising against using it to track kids because Apple don't want to make any claims that it could be used for that? I can understand why Apple advise against it but I can't understand why you advise against it. It's definitely better than nothing if your child gets lost.

An air tag would be better than just a metal tag with a phone number on it. It’s not a perfect tracker, but when combined it’s better. A dog tag with phone number is useless until a person reads it too.

I don't know why people would assume that an air tag would be anti theft device. It's clearly not. However, if placed in a pocket of a bag, or a purse, and the thief didn't know it was there, then more power to you. Living in a suburban area with a dog, and air tag on their collar may not be a bad idea.

Would an iPad with Bluetooth and 4/5G network report back AirTag location?
@Astroo40k3 жыл бұрын
I think it would be nice for young people to have or just people in general on them since sadly there are so many people disappearing and getting kidnapped these days hopefully Airtags 2 will have better range like 300 ft or more it is apple I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a slightly bigger version or just found a way to increase the range to like a mile that would be nice.

In Denmark we are not allowed to let our cat roam outside our gardens. I don’t have a garden so my only option is to take her out in the wild for short trips.

My dogs name is Red Dog and he thinks he’s Red dog from the movie. Always jumping the fence and going on adventures (but he always comes back) he’s getting old, we’ve moved to a new location and I worry with him going blind and having hip issues that he may be at more of a risk of getting hurt so I’ll be using this on both Red Dog and Nova my blue heeler pup. Better than nothing right

Could you address whether there is any physical danger to pets or children because of the Bluetooth or emf?
@Ellexis3 жыл бұрын
Apple just needs to get with the program and make a GPS device. We currently use the Fi GPS collar for our dogs and it works great 👍!

My cat should stay in the house or garden but sometimes escapes to the neighbors. I would say that is in range of Bluetooth right?
@bricecarette85093 жыл бұрын
That’s an excellent question. I wish someone could answer that. Typicaly, I want to « find » my cat around my house and neighbors in the country. I know I’ll have to walk near my cat but when they hide you can’t see them. I just want to make sure he’s around :) So if range is less than 20 meters... a bit useless.

Thought about it, but might not a criminal be able to tell the kid is lost?
@aidanm51943 жыл бұрын
I not trying to tell you not to but make sure not to invade their privacy. I mean whatever but a backpack is a better option. If your at Disneyland then yeh a pocket would be great.

Wouldn’t a criminal with an iPhone get the notification that he’s carrying someone else’s airtag , and thus make them get rid of it so the kid isn’t tracked?

I understand what you're saying about the pets. But I'm going to go ahead and get them anyway for my dogs because they have gotten out of our yard at times. It'll be a little something anyway.

Although I’m 11 I was planning on talking with my parents to get a air tag for my dog but I came to the sense that not only it would be hard to track but also they play a lot it may get broke or really dirty or something to happen to it like the dog chewing on it so nvm about my plan

For ~$30 and some change, I feel it could still be very useful in a theft situation.
@erikwsince19813 жыл бұрын
Liability reasons? No one is saying Apple needs to find their pet. I would still totally use Airtags as a way to track my pet if I had one. If anything, it’s one way to potentially find them if they’re lost.
