I love that you use a bit of house paint. The only people that care about what kind of paint you use are other artists. In the 15 years I've been selling art, I've very rarely had a collector ask specific questions about the supplies I use. Plus, I've always thought it a bit ridiculous that we should guarantee 100+ years of paint vibrancy. If it lasts as long as the person is going to like it and hang it in their home, then we've done our job -- especially for the price we charge.

Oh, my gosh, the framed collage landscapes look absolutely gorgeous on the wall. They're optimistic, fresh, colourful and each one really interesting to look at. I don't think I'd ever tire of looking at them. Just lovely!

A famous Brit art forger, John Myatt, used house paint for his forgeries and it fooled a lot of experts for a long time. He did some jail time and turned things around, and I think he's great, but you should check him out. At least with house paint you can go to the hardware store and get the formulas for any color mixes you want to do.

You're in good company. Picasso used house paint on his canvases too. I think lots of artists do. Also, its obviously what artists use to paint murals and they last a very long time. But if you use sample pots of house paint, they definitely need to sealed with a varnish.

The house pain’t in South Africa isn’t great but I’ve done exactly what you do. Why not? All the good brands in South Africa are imported, golden , Liquitex etc. No more Matisse although we used to get. The only Australian brand is Mont Marte but it seems very thin so I stopped buying it. Not much pigment

So can you use the structured paint on its own without diluting it? I like the idea of using house paint as a block in color...it would save $$ on artist paints thats for sure.
@ClairBremnerArt2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can use the structure paint right out of the tub, it’s just very thick so I tend to water it down a little bit first but you don’t have too. It depends on the effect you are going for. ☺️

Is “structure” paint what we call gesso?
@ClairBremnerArt2 жыл бұрын
No it’s not gesso, the “structure” just referred to the paint brand and the fact that is a heavy body / thick acrylic paint. The paint is call Matisse Structure Acrylic
