@boganpainter1638Ай бұрын
I have thought about doing this. I am afraid it is only a matter of time before the cruise lines ban you from bringing the Starlink receiver. They will come up with some BS excuse like it interfering with their navigation or something.
@johntatum9130Ай бұрын
Carnival actually has them on the banned list already.
@NoPantsProfitsАй бұрын
They have 12 of practically the same units on every ship!
@NoPantsProfitsАй бұрын
Actually it says satellite disk..... these are not dishes, it's the same technology built into every iPhone.
@boganpainter1638Ай бұрын
From Carnival’s ban list “Satellite disk, routers and other internet related equipment” (whatever is a satellite disk). I understand that they already have the same equipment onboard and that it isn’t using any technology that doesn’t already exist in a phone, but the cruise line wants the money and control that comes from monopolizing access to the internet. I think there is an implication that if you are trying to find a way around their control, it is because you want to do something nefarious, not just save money. Plus, if you want to build your bridge, you are going to need some “other internet related equipment.”
@NoPantsProfitsАй бұрын
I get you.... the "equipment" needed is a laptop and an Ethernet cable, nothing more, nothing less.... well possibly a masters degree in some IT field, but yeah.... I get your point.
@michaelseibold9977Ай бұрын
The lines will ban them. It's all about revenue and profit. Why do you think they don't allow you to bring your own wine? It's a business folks.
@NoPantsProfitsАй бұрын

@lilricky2515Ай бұрын
And what happens next year when you can use your phone to connect to Starlink? Will they check your phone and confiscate it if its capable of getting its own internet?
@traderpete007Ай бұрын
A bunch of lines don’t allow radios so I wonder how they will classify these
@elixier33Ай бұрын
The lines. Don't make profit with starlink.. They have significantly farther connections than the chap in this video, but that has to be shared up between all the people on the ship. They don't make much money, unfortunately. It's very expensive to provide internet to people on this scan in the middle of nowhere.. I very much doubt, they care.
@frakesjАй бұрын
Richard, starlink terminals use beam steering to point the signal. Orientation of the dish is basically irrelevant as long as the dish has a known point of reference.
@NoPantsProfitsАй бұрын
Takes about 2 hours for it to find that point of reference on my balcony.
@neutronstormАй бұрын
The beam out or mini is a 110 degree cone. You want that cone to point to as much north facing sky as possible.
@CallardAndBowser5 сағат бұрын
The cruise ship could get a commercial package for the ship from starlink and then everyone would have decent internet out there in the middle of the ocean. You would not even need to bring your mini with you.
@NoPantsProfits5 сағат бұрын
They have that, their internal infrastructure is not good though... newer ships are great and I DONT need my dish.
@montelwill7705Ай бұрын
Cruise internet package days are numbered. Amazon will be launching its satellite internet in 2025 (Project Kuiper). The dish will be the size of an iPhone pro max. Phone manufacturers are already working on integrating the satellite dish into the phone.

Hi there, I'm planning to go on a cruise, this is my first time going and I found that using the ship internet service cost a bomb. So I thought of using Starlink and I saw your youtube, this is amazing ! But so sad you also got it confiscated. As I am thinking which cruises disallow to bring Starlink aborad ? And how do you make it work thoughout the entire ship to use your own Starlink ? Thank you for your help.
@NoPantsProfits14 күн бұрын
I can't help with the second question, technically nobody specifically bans the Starlink brand because they all use them on their ships themselves.
@wogfunАй бұрын
Just thinking out loud here, but is it possible your antenna is connecting to the next closest satellite, South bound? I would think it is impossible the signal can penetrate through the ship. The app tells you to point North because that's where the closest satellite is, but after a certain amount of time when it doesn't connect, maybe it connects to the next closest available, which in your room would be South. I would be curious if the speeds would be better if you ignored the app and pointed the antenna South, that may confirm it if speeds improve.

Once connected speeds are about the same. On the way back from Hawaii my cabin will be facing north!
