I have an idea that might work better than the wheel. You can try making the running platform out of a chain tread like treadmills if that helps. I love the video and the need to over complicate things!

Very cool. I've wanted to make one of these for quite a while but I just kept putting it off. you have reignited my curiosity and given me some ideas :) About how much time do you think you spent designing/ constructing?

I am not sure about the exact time for this clock, probably around a week but this includes designing and making test pieces etc. And usually I take about as long to make it into a kit form with the instructions and packaging (this was for when I sold it as kits).
