A mystery game is a tough one to run. Rewarding if you can pull it off but a hard one.

I absolutely love the idea of a performance troop with this diversity and abilities! A Druid who stands in for circus animals is such a cool concept I've never thought about before. Mason is adorable too xD

Thanks, I wanted to make sure each really stood out - and had abilities that would make them suspicious! Glad you enjoyed it!

This is a killer mystery. With just a few small changes, the killer could be any of the suspects. At one point, I thought Leonidas might have even committed suicide and used Magic to make it look like homicide. Adaptability is one of the hallmarks of a great DnD module, and you nailed it here.

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I always love hearing not just how people use my quests, but how they change them up and adapt them to their own table, so I'm happy you think this lends itself well to that! I was proud of this one!

Oh i love this, I do enjoy these quick quest but biggest issues i have is my players are on lower end of levels 3 atm, So its nice to have a non combat encounter for them to enjoy

That’s great, glad this one fits perfectly for them! I also have two lower-level quick quests in the playlist if you haven’t checked them out yet - the Banded Bandits and Terror in the Mines. Could also be useful!

we did a murder mystery years ago based on the movie (which was based on the book) _The Name of the Rose_ . That was a lot of fun.

I really really like this one and will hopefully be able to use it for my group at some point. It's great how clues and the suspects' statements lead into each other. They all make sense and fit with the character's motivations. Even though not all might be prime suspects, most of them have something to keep secret and a legitimate reason for it. I also like the coded journal. If players are into solving that stuff, you could even given them an actual text to decode. Best part is that even if decyphered early on, it doesn't fully reveal the murderer. Again, all in all, very well put together murder mystery quest! Thank you for that. Maybe you can share more of these, or some puzzles, in the future!

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it! Giving them an actual code to solve would be very fun - and way more than I can come up with! We’ll see if I end up making more murder mysteries, all of the Quick Quest videos are ones that I’ve used in my own games. But you never know!

In a case like that, you could have the victim state that they couldn't see the murderer's face but maybe can tell the clothes they were wearing. Or whether it was a man or a woman.

I did not get it, but I am crappy at mysteries in general great mini encounter though, I think it is pretty good for stopping any spell casters in the group from "ruining" the mystery, I would put this after the main encounter of a previous day, so they haven't gotten the required long rest to replenish spells

@@TheBardsCollegeYT I had an interesting thing I did which was kind of blend Clue with D&D, along with social deduction games. There were cards the players had, similar to clue, but there were also cards hidden in the manor so they had to each take turns to explore. The traitor had the ability to lie, and certain other powers. If someone guessed the killer, weapon, and location, the traitor was weaker for the final fight.

That sounds fun! I always love hearing how you can blend new mechanics into the game, adding Clue cards is a great idea!

The DCs on this seems really high, unless the main point is to have a small chance of succeeding. The last time I used DC20 or higher was during the final boss of my campaign.
@TheBardsCollegeYT
@TheBardsCollegeYT 2 ай бұрын
I definitely should’ve put in there “adjust DCs as necessary based on party level,” thanks for pointing that out! Some of these are supposed to be harder - breaking a code without a cipher is near impossible, for example - but when I ran this my players were around level 7 (I think) and didn’t have any trouble with most of the DCs. But of course that will vary with party!

@@TheBardsCollegeYT There's also a pretty massive difference between saves and skill checks! That mostly made me think there numbers were really high, because I was thinking both. How often do you use DCs that are 20 or higher for skill checks in your games? Succeeding on a DC20 Sleight of Hand check or succeeding on a DC20 Dexterity save are quite different! Another small addition to this is the fact that this situation isn't about combat. There have been many cases where my players were saving their resources for a possible combat and didn't end up using Enhance Ability or other spells/abilities that could've helped in a situation like this. I hope you got something out of this message! English is not my first language and sometimes it's a struggle to figure out good examples trying to explain the thought process. 🤣
@TheBardsCollegeYT
@TheBardsCollegeYT 2 ай бұрын
You’re selling yourself short, your English is perfect! I would’ve never guessed it’s not your first language! I wouldn’t say I use DC 20+ any more than others - I tend to use it for things that are either designed to be hard or as an increase in difficulty if the players have already messed up or made it tougher on themselves in some way. Looking at this quest, the three examples of 20+ skill checks (unless I’m forgetting one…) are seeing very tiny details on a shirt full of stains, and discovering aspects of a code without having the cipher (which they can figure out in other ways). I think that’s pretty reasonable! I do see your point about players saving resources and the difference between saves and checks. But honestly, by level 7 a lot of characters will have +7 to their best skills, even more if they get expertise. With things like Guidance and the Help action for Advantage, beating a DC 20 doesn’t start to feel as high! 15 is considered “medium” according to the rules, after all, so I wouldn’t be afraid to throw in some higher DCs when warranted! But again, every table is different, so adjust DCs as you see fit!
