yes i'd love an opinion. teams try to pass off nagging groin injury as slow healing tendon injuries, but as i understand it's often a damaged hip labrum (like isiah thomas) and the longer you take to do repair the worse the outcome. thomas did huge rehab to avoid surgery but it was all for nothing ... starting with the celtics who pushed/allowed him to rehab because they wanted him on the court instead of getting the best treatment

Love this vid, this is pretty much what im going through. I have a tear in my patellar tendon, and that's because of my landing mechanics when playing volleyball and basketball, combined with the excess weight for my height and age.. similar to Zion and Derrick Rose. So I've been working with our athletic training department in rehabbing, and in bettering my biomechanics. From putting an insert in my shoes, to working on my hips. Love this vid because its just another case similar to my injury that I had no idea why It happened. Im also taking this year off completely to focus on myself, instead of getting surgery. Love the vid as always, keep up the great work. One of my fav channels by far.

After watching your full explanation of what likely wants to be corrected, ballet stands out as what would work really well for Zion, as silly as it sounds. The abductors, the rotators, and just consciousness around movement is pretty much exactly what it would train. I have both my quadracep muscles torn from soccer. I can't really do squats because I can't feel my quads gaining strength rather I feel my knee ligaments taking all the weight. Is there really a way to strengthening quads while having avulsions on the quadriceps from rectus femoris tears?
@Anon.G4 жыл бұрын
Rectus fermoris is barely used in a squat anyway
@Metalpazallteway4 жыл бұрын
@@Anon.G They're supported by glutes muscles but if you go all the way down passed 90 degrees, the templation of both muscles become active, and since they're both torn from seperate occasions and reasons, I can't perform that action so volume and strengthening is always compromised. So basically to run, the knees are loose and in pain, and squatting out of the question.
@micahbottoms4 жыл бұрын
First of all, you definitely have rectus femoris activation in a squat since RF extends the knee as well as flexes the hip (both squat movements). If you are having trouble with barbell squats, they might not be completely healed. Rest and physical therapy will help because it takes time for even a partial tear to heal. But if you think they are healed and just weak due to strength loss, you might try Bulgarian split squats to gain straight in your quads without as much hip flexion as you would have in a barbell squat. They are also great for correcting muscle imbalances if one leg is stronger than the other. You might try those along with weighted step ups onto a box, these lifts complement each other pretty well in my experience.
@Metalpazallteway4 жыл бұрын
@@micahbottoms So you've had the tears as well? Thank you I will look into it. Yes I've noticed alot of imbalance, especially in my hips and since one tear was subsequent t the other due to lack of volume on the other, it became evidently stronger. So one day, while I was sprinting after the ball I ruptured the left quad. My right quad tear was due to a kick there years ago. But that's a different story, this present tear is about 2nd degree my first tear was a 3rd degree tear that's why sometimes I feel surgery is still needed but I have yet to find the right doc. I don't know tbh just frustrating when you don't feel your hips right and the balance right.
@Anon.G4 жыл бұрын
@@Metalpazallteway I'm only saying that squatting barely uses rectus femoris is because it means you still have a lot of recovery to go. If you can imagine this, put your feet into plantar flexion, then put your feet and knee caps on the ground(kneel) hold onto something with your hands, and slowly allow yourself to lower(keep your back straight and lean back) this uses the full range of motion of the rectus femoris and can be really difficult to do. If you find it easy you can hold a weight on your chest

My knees went kinda inwards when i walked. I also dislocated both my kneecaps. For recovery, i trained my hips, feet , hamstrings and the gluteus maximus. My knees started going outwards, my legs are beginning to get that varus shape. Before i ran on my whole foot, but now i run on the ball part of the foot only. Im overweight at ~260, 6'7,6'8 but i dont have jumpers knee anymore, i can run waaay faster and i feel much lighter overall. So yes, reprogramming your own biomechanics is very possible. I used lebron for reference because i always though he walked and ran kinda funny. After some research, its actually very biomechanically positive to walk and run like that. Great video as always, keep up the good work

I’m watching Dan Patrick right now who is talking with Reggie Miller. Reggie loves Zion, says he’s a great kid, really innocent, with a totally infectious smile. He is however worried about Zion’s weight. Reggie said Zion needs to get down to 250 and he would be unstoppable. Dan said Zion was the third heaviest player in the NBA so I had to go see. That heaviest NBA title belongs to 7-foot-5 Celtics rookie Tacko Fall. Though in the G League at the moment, Fall is still listed on Boston's roster at an astounding 311 pounds. At 7-foot-4, Boban Marjanovic is not only freakishly tall, but just generally huge weighing in at 290 pounds. The Mavericks center is a monster. Third in the NBA weight winners is Zion. He is 6’8” and 284 pounds. Every time he would run and dunk it had to be like a tank headed at you. I wonder if this retraining of his body will also include a little weight management? It’s rare for the talking heads to agree on anything but they all seem to agree that Zion is a great guy. This was a great video. Thanks.

Although this may be true in some circumstances these NBA teams among many other professional sport organizations have Certified Strength and Conditioning Professionals who also specialize in this type of player development! Often the S&C Coaches are one on one with an athlete more time in a week than any other member of the coaching staff, and building these patterns is all about consistent messaging!
