Watching this after Canada got their Gold. So many familiar faces! You deserved your medals in 2012 and 2016, and especially the Gold in 2021! I hope that you continue rising to new heights, Canada!

Canada were outplayed in this game by France, but they found a way of putting one behind the net at the end of the game. Sometimes that's enough to win in this sport. And by the way, Canada should have played in the gold medal match because they were totally screwed by the ref in the semifinal match against the USA. Did anyone see that game?

Diego Pons I was in Lake Placid watching the game in a pub surrounded by Americans and it was strange to see them applaud every bizarre call the Norwegian ref made against Canada. Calls I haven't seen since I was 10. She was clearly in over her head imho. I played at elite levels for many years and some of those calls were amateurish and borderline at best. I'm bias but even some Yanks were going wtf and laughing. The football Gods rectified the situation against France because Canada had no business winning that one.

+Diego Pons Sure, bad calls happen, but even when Christina Pedersen awarded the U.S. a penalty for a handball in the box off an indirect free kick in the 80th minute, Abby Wambach still had to convert that spot kick where Erin McLeod could've saved the penalty and Canada cleared the rebound. Also, Canada had 40 minutes (10 in normal time and 30 in extra time) to overcome that travesty with a goal of their own and didn't get it. It's all about the breaks and inside Old Trafford, the USWNT got their break and capitalized it. That being said, I hope I see a final four of the USA, Canada, Germany and Brazil in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup tournament (if those four qualify) with Sweden and hosts France being the sleepers.

It was because of the result of the semifinal game that I started following the Canadian women's team, but on the whole I'm on the fence about Christina Pedersen's approach to reffing the game. On the one hand, yes, her six-second call against Erin McLeod was harsh, and her handball call against Marie-Eve Nault wouldn't have been necessary if the six-second call hadn't been made. On the other hand, if Canada had won at least silver in that game, then the bronze medal game would not have been played, and Diana Matheson's goal would likely not have happened. That goal of hers was a turning point for me: it became a catalyst for many changes in my life, including kick-starting my music career out of inspiration from Matheson and her teammates.

As the match against Japan, France dominate but doesn't score. Then on a very few occasions (1 or 2), Canada as Japan scores. And thats why i love football, as long as time is not over, good or bad team, scoring is always possible.

I'm amazed by some comments I'm reading here. It's like if a lot of people don't know that in team sports efforts, statistics and domination mean NOTHING, only the finale score does. Yes France was the better team on paper and dominated the game, but they failed to score. Canada played fair and in a style that suited their team against the French powerhouse, and they won on a nice goal, not a "lucky punch". What were they supposed to do, forfeit the game and give the win to the French team simply because France was better on paper? Grow up sore losers.

France was a better team in this match. Take no credit away from Canada because this was an amazing tournament for them and they did give USA a hard time but USA and Canada have played each other many times and I don't remember the last time Canada beat them. The only reason Canada even contested USA was because of Sinclair, she is one of the world's best and had all 3 goals against USA. In this match France clearly dominated and they are a higher ranking. Overall, France was most likely favored

France would have deserved it, the US girls as well. So in the end the better teams are out. Same with the Euro Championship. I really hate those defensive teams that only try to avoid goals and hope for one lucky punch.
