Canada Airport, Immigration Customs & Passport Control Qs (in Urdu & Subtitles)

This video shows full process of air travel to Canada, questions asked by automated Passport Control kiosk (Primary Inspection Kiosk) and IRCC during Immigration & Customs, and how to declare value of gifts you are bringing to Canada.

WHAT THIS VIDEO SHOWS:
Video shows my personal International travel to YYC Calgary Canada, how I answered questions, and additional Qs asked by Canada Border Services Officers / Immigration and Customs officers. I declared the value of gifts incorrectly (by mistake) and got sent for secondary inspection! .. video shows how to find your luggage.
ARRIVAL PROCESS:
All travelers arriving in Canada have to answer questions about them and their trip. This process is now automated at all major Canada airports (ports of entry) and done by the Primary Inspection Kiosk machine that you see in the video. The machine asks the following:
* Qs about you and country of residence
* Purpose & duration of your trip
* Scan your passport
* Asks Questions about your health
* Duty Free allowance,
* Value of EACH gift you are bringing
* Total Currency you have in Canadian Dollars
When all questions are answered, the automated machine prints out a paper report based on your answers that we take to the Border Services Officer (Canada Immigration Officer) who decides whether a Secondary Screening (additional questioning by a Border Services officer) is needed.
My suggestions:
* Declare correct value of your gifts
* Be honest in answering questions
* Be friendly
* Provide exact answers - don't be vague
* Don't give long answers or unnecessary details that immigration / customs officer did not ask
SECONDARY SCREENING
Secondary is typically a simple straight forward process where the officer wants to know what brings the traveler to Canada, duration of stay (tourism, visit friends or family, work, or permanent immigration- see below) , who we are going to meet here or stay with. Based on the answers they would either stamp the passport and you are okay to go, OR, they take us to separate room for even more detailed one-to-one interview - typically this happens when the border Services office cannot Quickly decide on what to do and they need they are not satisfied with the answers the traveler provided initially.
CANADA PERMANENT RESIDENTS ARRIVAL
If you are received Canadian Immigration Permanent Resident visa and this is your first time arrival in Canada, there are special papers and documents that the immigration officer will need to see and verify - much more detail vs a tourist. Therefore, they will take you to special section of the airport with special seating area and immigration officers who will review your Permanent Resident status and paperwork. Don't worry and don't be alarmed when they take you to a separate section - it is normal handling for Canada Immigration.
The immigration officer will verify the address you are going to / will be staying at, and the funds you have. Your Canadian Permanent Resident Card will be sent to the address you provide. It takes a few weeks to receive it therefore be sure to provide an address you will stay for a few weeks.
ADDRESS IN CANADA - PERMANENT RESIDENTS:
For anyone arriving new in Canada the first few months are super important because that is when you receive in mail all the important documents needed for life in Canada. Social Insurance Card (SIN Card), Health Canada Card, Drivers Licenses, Bank Card, Debit Card, etc. So please try to keep your address the same at least for the first few months in Canada. Until you get all these important cards don't move away from that address.

Good Q. i have not done it this way, but in reviewing the app I see that the Qs it asks are the same that the automated machine ask. with that said, my understanding is that when QR code is scanned at the automated passport control machine located on Canada airport, it should bypass all Qs and just print you the paper to take to the immigration officer.

Bohot shukria! When we answer questions on the scanning machine (automated passport control machine) it prints a paper (video count 6:40) which the border services officer standing next to the line checks for all passengers (video count 7:55). Based on what is printed on the paper the officer decides if we need to talk to an immigration officer in the booth. You can see on video count 7:13 that many people are in line to meet with boarder/immigration officer. But in count 7:27 you see the woman (in light brown shirt and black pants) who is going straight to collect the bags without meeting with immigration officer. So it all depends on what is on the paper that prints. If you are coming to Canada for visit, it is expected that you will have gifts for your friends and family. But it is not allowed to bring things and then sell in Canada. If you are coming to Canada as Permanent resident or as student then you will have less gifts and more items for your own 'living' and you will have some money too. The biggest advice I can give you is to be honest and confident. Big problems happen when people try to hide something or are lying. Immigration officers see thousands of people every day and they are trained to find people who are trying to hide something. If they find one thing incorrect , they thing everything we told them is incorrect and it just becomes difficult to explain or clear things out. Just be truthful and confident. IN ENGLISH: Asalamu alaikum, laws change and I don't know your exact situation. But in general, if you received Canada Permanent Resident (PR) visa in job category then English language is needed so that you can do job in Canada. If the PR is based on family immigration then English requirement is more flexible. In reality, if someone does not know any English they can just work at a Pakistani business (store, restaurant) and still make money. Many do this. Of course if someone knows English they have more opportunity to find work and in higher paying jobs.

ANSWER to you Q: If you have a work permit then during immigration they usually don't ask you to show money already in the personal bank account because it is expected that you will earn money in the country that issued work permit. BUT, you will be asked many additional questions about the work you will be doing, for how long, the company that issued the work permit, your qualifications for the job and most importantly if you plan to leave the job and do something else or do a 2nd job while doing the one for which you have work permit. Understand the job requirements and follow the laws of the country otherwise it complicates lot of things.

Hi brother i need to know can i apply for refugee in UNHCR in one of canada's airports once arrival at the airport through a transit visa , and do it possible to leave airport in layover for like 10 hours ?

This may have changed now but Canada is 'final' destination for airlines so anyone looking to transit through Canada for another international flight would get need to clear customs and immigration, and then 're-enter' airport to get to next flight. So a 10 hour layover will be enough for you to do this. Claim Asylum / Refugee status: I am not an attorney (lawyer), do not know your exact situation, and laws change frequently so please seek legal advise from lawyer on this. What I see online is that anyone can attempt to claim asylum when they get to immigration officer. No particular documents are needed but when traveling on visit visa, be ready to answer the most common questions during immigration check are a) How long will you stay b) Who will you visit (friends, relatives, or just tourist sight seeing) c) Where will you stay (name & address of hotel or people where you will stay) d) Where or which cities will you visit d) what gifts did you bring with you? e) How much money did you bring for the tourist visit? f) Did you bring any commercial goods (that you will sell in Canada. You shouldn't) Primary purpose of the questions is to confirm you are coming here as tourist on leisure trip. Good luck.

Good question! I have not personally traveled as a group of 6 or more therefore do not have exact answer to share. The airport staff in Red color coat/jacket you see on video count 4:22 is there to assist and can answer it - I am sure the Q has come up at the airport in the past. In case you arrive a time when there is no staff to assist, if you have two adults + kids that make up total 6, you can have adults do theirs separately with 2 kids each. The immigration staff at airport is there to help travelers. It is understandable that if machine can't take 6 people the traveler will have to handle as two groups. As I noted in description of the video, the main thing when crossing border is to **be honest and friendly **. I have been to Canada a lot of times but this time I made a mistake in customs declaration. The immigration & customs officer was okay with the verbal explanation I gave him, 'that I misunderstood the question'. I hope this helps.

If you are traveling as a family then all of you (family) will go to the immigration officer counter at the same time. The officer will ask question to each person, and if someone does not speak English then other person in family can assist in answering.

Here are answers to your Qs and suggestions (a) if you are asking: when your parents and sister arrive at the Canada airport, will they all talk to immigration officer together or individually (one by one)? Answer: they will meet together as one family. In video counter 7:17 to 7:22, in the middle of screen on right-hand-side of the blue floor sign, you will see a few people all standing together in front of the immigration officer - this is how your family will meet the immigration officer. NOTE: for all of them to have immigration as one family, your family should complete the 'automated passport control' screen correctly. In counter 4:37 - 4:42 of video about 'How many travelers in this declaration', your family should select '3'. This will keep them all together for immigration purpose'. (b) if you are asking : when their visit to Canada is complete and they are returning to India, will they have to talk to a Canadian immigration officer before they leave Canada? Answer: no they will not have to talk to Canadian immigration officer 99.9% of the cases. In the 0.01% of the cases the Canadian immigration randomly checks passengers for any number of their hidden reason. (I got pulled a few times - LOL coz I was tired from helping someone move cities, hadn't slept well so must have looked like something was wrong with me). But most of the time the immigration Qs are when you arrive at destination - for return travel that is India.

IN ENGLISH: Walaikum asalam, Your quesiton has three important words: vist visa, sponsor, agent. I will try to provide relevance of all three. If you paid money to an agent and he guided you to get a genuine visit visa issued by Canada Consulate then the job of agent is done. Please understand that a visa does not guarantee entry into a country. Visa only gives opportunity to arrive at a border crossing and request entry there. The immigration officer at the border crossing makes the final decision to allow a person into the country. Visit visa means you are coming to Canada as a tourist to visit and will go back to UAE. So immigration officer will try to confirm this info from talking to you. That how many days you will be in Canada, where will you go, who will you visit, where will you stay, do you have money to pay for your expenses, what you do in UAE and will you return back to UAE. If you have a sponsor based visit visa, then immigration officer will ask about this sponsor, who is this person, how do you know them, why are you coming to visit this sponsor. These are most common questions, and there may be more questions. As you see in the video here, when answering immigration questions be confident and honest. Immigration officers do not like when people are not honest and it just complicates things for the person traveling. Best of luck.

Congratulations on receiving the visitor visa. You can arrive in Toronto and then travel to Edmonton, Alberta or any other city. If you are coming from Pakistan, then PIA has a non-stop flight to Toronto. And you can then take 'Air Canada' or 'West Jet' flights from Toronto to Edmonton, Alberta.

When traveling on visit visa, be ready to answer the most common questions during immigration check are a) How long will you stay b) Who will you visit (friends, relatives, or just tourist sight seeing) c) Where will you stay (name & address of hotel or people where you will stay) d) Where or which cities will you visit d) what gifts did you bring with you? e) How much money did you bring for the tourist visit? f) Did you bring any commercial goods (that you will sell in Canada. You shouldn't) Primary purpose of the questions is to confirm you are coming here as tourist on leisure trip. Many people use visit visa to come into country and then try to change their visa to a student visa or something else. I hear it works, but I do not personally know anyone who has done this successfully. But, if you are thinking about this then talk to a lawyer in Canada and have your things lined up and ready.

In English: I have two answers for this question, please see both: 1) before a passenger is allowed to enter airplane for travel to Canada (or USA), the airport staff checks visa a few times. Based on my experience of travels it seems difficult to arrive in Canada without any visa. But if someone has tourist or transit visa then yes you can claim asylum at airport. Please see videos on this subject. (2) Right now Canada is taking lot of students from overseas with very low requirements! A lot of students from other countries are coming to Canada right now. Therefore, I would suggest to find any small college in Canada and apply online directly. You may have to pay fee for one semester but you will get genuine Canada visa and easy to study and work and build life - without paying any agent or middle person.

walaikum salam. good Q. think of the answer this way, the immigration officer is going to check if you have 'resources' to pay for the duration of your visit. The resources can be cash, credit card, a family member or friend local in Canada with whom you are going to stay. Example: If your visit visa is for 5-yeras, and you arrive in Canada with 1-month of return ticket - it means you have to show to immigration officer you have 'resources' to handle your accommodation, food, travel expenses. If you tell immigration officer you do not know anyone in Canada - the immigration officer will expect you to have a hotel booking for your stay in Canada and for you to have resources (cash/credit card) to pay for this booking. In this case better to make a reservation with hotel in advance and show to immigration officer where you will stay. You will need more resources/money if paying everything on own. But are planning to stay with a relative or friend in Canada - the immigration officer will ask this person's name, address, how you know them etc - and if the immigration officer is satisfied with answers they will not expect you to have as much money/resources. Whichever option you select (staying on own or with friend), when you are coming to Canada (or any country) the traveler has to have good idea where they will stay, and the address - even if you are planning to stay at a hotel. If you have a phone number that works international it will help you a lot - see my other video on getting a Global phone number - you can make account on Uber, food delivery companies etc with that phone number.

Walaikum asalam, for education certificates i would recommend to please carry the originals in your hand carry luggage or shoulder bag. Copies / attested copies you can carry in checked luggage (suitcases), but originals are very valuable so always carry with you. I carry mine in my backpack that you see in my 'luggage' 'video.

In most cases they check bags only if they think the passenger is not telling the truth, because then they have to search the passenger to find the truth. A passenger on visit visa can carry a few credentials with them, that is not unusual. But if someone is carrying their entire life of credentials without a reasonable explanation, it may raise some questions.

On count 5:20 of video, the question on the screen was "Do I have any gift with value more than $60 each (per gift)" .. or in other words, do I have any expensive gift? . I should have selected "No" here because each gift in my bag was $30 or less. But I incorrectly selected "Yes" , as a result I was sent to different line for more questions. There the immigration officer asked me what gift I brought that are worth more than $60 per gift. I explained the mistake to immigration officer that I thought the Q was about combined value. They did not ask any other Q.

When coming to Canada for visit, the immigration officer asks a bunch of question through which they try to find out three types of information (1) what are your plans during stay in Canada (2) do you plan to work or do business during this time - receive any money (3) do you actually plan to return after the visit. With this said, the common questions you should be ready to answer and with proof are a) how long is your stay in Canada b) who will you visit? - names of person. (exact names, location city of people) c) where will you stay? if staying with friend, location d) the people you are visiting, what is their profession? e) do you have funds $ to pay for your meals, travel, hotel stay f) who is at the airport to pick you up? g) what gifts have you brought with you? h) what you do in your home country? Trick questions: i) did you bring any items that you plan to sell? ii) did you bring anything for which you will receive money? iii) do you plan to work or get paid for any work during your stay? By law, a visitor is not allowed to 'earn' money during their stay and is not allowed to sell or receive money (do business) during the visit. Therefore, the answer to all three trick questions is 'No'. If you have a sister in Canada who is pregnant, and you & your mom are coming to visit her during her maternity - your sister should not pay anything for this help.

IN ENGLISH: My answer has two parts (1) when arriving on visit visa, the immigration officer at the airport will ask similar questions that were asked at the time of visa interview. Their computer file has record of the details you provided in visa interview so they will check to see if your answers are the same or changed. And they want to get more specific details like exact address you will stay, how many exact days, what cities will your visit, name of person or companies you will visit or conferences you will attend. Important thing they try to determine is someone is honest or telling a lie. (Part-2) Visit visa means travel for a short duration. Mostly it is to to visit family or friends, attend business meeting or conference, or to just travel and see country. So when applying for the visit visa a person should have very good documents that support the purpose of trip, AND to show enough money is available in personal bank account for the trip, or financial support letter from family or conference organizer that shows they will pay for the trip. In addition to these two points the visa interviewer wants to know if the person would come back from the travel or not.

But, the Automated Passport Control asks questions only in languages shown in video counter 4:15. In this video I have provided translation of each screen to explain what is being asked. If that is not possible then when you are at airport, please look for the airport staff in red coat (video counter 4:18 and 4:22) and ask for help.

If your question is how much money is needed at the airport, the answer depends on what type of visa you have. A person who has visit visa needs to have enough money to pay for the visit/tour. If coming to Canada as permanent resident, then government requires you have six months of funds available. If coming on student visa, then should have money to cover your expenses during the year. If coming on work visa then very little money is needed because you are expected to work in Canada and earn here. Also, if coming on family immigration visa (example: if your parents or wife sponsored your) then very little money is required to bring because it is expected that your family will support you.

ENGLISH: This is a good question that others have not asked. When we arrive in Pakistan, the staff at Immigration & Passport Control counter puts an 'Entry stamp' in our passport. When we leave Pakistan the 'Passport Control' counter at airport put an 'Exit' stamp on passport. CANADA: when we arrive in Canada the immigration officer does not put any 'Entry' stamp in passport. There is also no 'Exit' stamp when leaving Canada. There used to be many years ago but it is no longer happens.

Are you coming to Canada as a visitor or as permanent resident?

The laws may have changed, but my understanding is that if you are coming to Canada to work / permanent resident it means you will be in close proximity of other people in Canada and the govt requires a valid Medical exam just to be sure you are healthy and not a health risk for others.
