Canada is a very important part of the of the commonwealth. The largest realm in the commenwealth of nations. The Queen herself is fluent in French as is other senior members of the royal family. There is strong binding links and being able to speak French is William's duty. He will one day address the parliament in both languages. It's his duty.

I agree like my siblings and cousin have telling Kevin Richards that William would rather protect his people than have them beheaded. He is not sick or cruel, he had a protecting nature since he was seven. The only time he threatened to "chop off people's heads" when he became king was when he was five years old and he saw his mother getting upset by being chased for a good story and he saw it made her cry. Even at five he has a kind heart and could see when someone was upset.

William has to learn better French. because he will one day address the Canadian parliament in French as well as English when he becomes king. It's a constitutional duty. He should've started young, but Diana wanted a "Normal" education for him and harry, when all previous princes, where given the very best private mostly scholarly education in languages latin, and constitutional & government affairs. The Queen and prince Charles both speak fluent French.

@ThatKidnamedSam I have a cousin living in The Falklands and she said she will never want to be argentinian. In fact, an overwhelming majority of the Falklands residents voted to remain British last survey in December 2011. In fact, The Falklands existed even before Argentina became a country from Spain. So if there is contention it would be between Spain and UK and not argentina. After Argentina deliberately attacked The Falklands the people there despised them and desire to be free from them.

@DoNotLaughAtMe almost all Commonwealth countries like the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have an AAA credit rating. Canada never pays for the Queen. In fact, Obama's "beast" presidential car and Sarkozy's security cost more than this whole visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. And the Queen cannot spend unless there is a consent by the Parliament (house of commons and house of lords). The United Kingdom spends much less than republics like France, Germany, Italy, Greece, and US.

well, the people of the Falklands just said they do not want argentina. so, get it? there is no issue anymore because the people in the islands themselves said they are British. so, i hope you respect their voice and stop insisting on a petition that is immaterial. If you listen to Argentinian tv, most of the people are telling their government to stop bringing up the falklands issue because they do not even have the money to fund an army, they have no capability to compete against Britain.

Royals were educated in languages classics affairs of state as was their duty. They were fluent in French at least because of the commonwealth. Diana instead sent the boys to state schools and forgode a classic education. William is struggling with his French which looks bad. Royals should not be ordinary or celebrity. That's not them. The nation wants them to be special, a focal point for us. Not ordinary.
