We can thank the provincial government years ago when they capped the GP's wages and took away their hospital privilege's. Nurses wages capped while the current government gives more money to nursing agencies. The provincial government needs to start respecting our nurses and GP doctors not circumventing our current regulations and fast tracking immigrant doctor hiring. This kind of thinking merely prolongs the same issues. There's a reason more kids aren't picking a General Practioner discipline. This issue has been building for years. PAY THEM.

A family doctor has to take care everything outside of professional duties such as renting an office, hiring staffs, purchasing supplies, etc and all the necessary paperwork works. All these extra burdens seem like imposed upon doctors by provincial governments to open up a full privatization opportunity by those greedy politicians. Why provincial governments don’t provide a public platform where a family doctor can concentrate on medical duties while other things are taken care by the platform? So the provincial governments can earn some extra revenue from service charge while our family doctors don’t have to, whether extremely overwork then take early retirement due to fatigue or simply run away to a better country…

This is an easy fix. Increase billing fees for family MDs. Incentivize the use of residents; they are one of the, if not most valuable resources healthcare has. Let them get a cut of the billing. Increase virtual communications throughout disciplines.

The docs don't want to stay here. Immigrant docs are forced to work in the north for a min period and then they move. Why stay in arctic Canada when you can doctor elsewhere? Also, GPs don't cure anything. They prescribe drugs for symptoms. It's a dark cycle tied to big pharma.
@phoreal226 ай бұрын
To tackle a supply issue, allow Nurse Practitioners (NPs) to bill and run clinics. They have powers and scope similar to those of a GP (ordering tests, prescribing, and referring) and can help provide primary care relief and attend to most people's visits.

the med schools in ontario are not letting students enroll straight out of premed. my daughter is in the states doing her phd well her friends do nothing waiting to get into ontario schools. it’s too late for the canadian medical system. they can’t fix it now. they don’t have enough residency positions to make up for the deficiency in the specialist areas. and once a person does a 2 year residency in a city they usually grow roots and stay. not many medical students that leave Canada to study come back. even if they wanted to the medical system makes them jump through hopes to do it.

You didn’t mention the support being given to foreign trained medical doctors already in Canada. I know many of them who feel in welcomed by the federal & provincial govt due to lack of financial support for certification and other requirements for licensing. Canada’s population is growing and you need more medical students and FMGs to fill up the demand. If this is not addressed now, this dire situation will get worse. Canada should revise its immigration policies for doctors

The problem with universal healthcare is that your in ER like me having worked for 30 plus years in Canada and paid into the healthcare system. Then there's someone next to you also a Canadian citizen but going back and forth to their home country and sporadically on welfare..part time work, unemployed who is also in ER and has the same access to healthcare as you do. There is something wrong with this system. And I'm not trying sound exclusionary because my parents were immigrants and we all worked continuously in Canada and made it our home. But we have to make some alterations to the system. For example if you've worked and lived in Canada non-stop for 10 -20 years then you get certain types of access to the system. I'm just saying.
